The Cult of the Mukluk

MuklukMuch to our distress, big fugly boots seem to be taking over the world. Now that every chav is wearing Uggs, it‘s time for the celebs to go one up on them. These are Mukluks, or as we like to call them, ‘bunny cull boots‘. They’re made with real rabbit fur, you see. Mopsy, Flopsy and Cottontail all died so Kate Moss could spend $395 on looking ridiculous. We’re currently taking bets on how long it will be before someone wears them with a bikini in LA. Paris Hilton, come on down…

Mukluks are sold out in the US, but Glamour Magazine has found out where to buy them in the UK. Be prepared to join a waiting list.

The Manolo Shoehorn

ShoehornIf (like most of the population) you can’t justify spending hundreds on a pair of Manolo Blahniks, you can still put something Manolo-designed near your feet. The designer has been commissioned by homeware giants Habitat to produce this shoehorn, which will help you to put on your size-too-small-bought-them-in-the-sale shoes, and look pretty on your dressing table (or on top of a pile of clothes, if you’re as messy as me). It retails at £25, but if you’re having trouble getting hold of it (Manolo sells out quick, you know!), it’s worth trying eBay.

Snow bunnies rejoice!

GolabootI remember having a pair of moon boots back in the 80s when I was a pig-tailed tot sledging on the common (back when snow meant a day off school, not a public transport nightmare). And now they're back thanks to Gola (print snow boots £50 from ASOS, also in pink). Just tacky enough to be cool again, these truly are the warmest and most comfy footwear choice for cold weather, and so much more practical in snow than suede boots or trainers. Tuck your trousers into them, put on your earmuffs and remember…don’t eat yellow snow.

Heavy Metal

BronzeriIf you want to dress up your going-out jeans this season, why not do it with metallic shoes? They’re everywhere at the moment (so get to them before the teenagers do). There’s nothing like a bit of bling for your feet, particularly if it comes in the shape of these bronze leaf detail sandals from River Island (£49.99 and very Prada-esque). If you’ve won the lottery recently (or have a rich, generous and very stupid boyfriend) you could go also for Dolce & Gabbana’s gorgeous silver leather slingbacks at £198.

Bargain Shoe Alert!

Asos1Trying to find nice shoes for under £25 is like trying to find a good-looking man who isn’t an arrogant you-know-what. I searched for a very long time before I came across these pink peep-toes from ASOS, ‘in the style of Sarah Jessica Parker’, apparently, and cheaper than a Sex & The City box-set. As pink and gold suede-look shoes are the type of thing you’re likely to wear only once or twice, it makes sense not to pay a fortune for them. And £22 is a bit of a bargain, especially when you can save an extra 10% by using the discount code ‘PARTY’ at the checkout. I’m so good to you, aren’t I?

DIY Gwen Stefani

Diygwen
It would be wrong to slag off Gwen Stefani’s unique style, but we had to laugh at her jumping about on stage at the MTV Europe Music Awards trying to stay upright. Ballet-pump inspired fetish platforms, it’s a look that nobody else could pull off (not even you, Aguilera). But the thing with Gwen is that somehow, teamed with the whole Alice in Wonderland get-up and surrounded by scary looking Japanese girls, the shoes don’t look that bad. Don’t try this at home though, kids.

‘Sexy 09‘ Shoes £39 from Alternative Footwear.
