A (very slightly) belated Merry Christmas to everybody! You were promised a Friday eBay watch this week as usual, but on Christmas Eve I came down with a nasty case of ‘Boy Flu’ (that’s when you have a bad cold but pretend it’s worse in order to get sympathy!) and in my lemsip-fuelled haze couldn’t even focus on the computer screen (all together now, ‘aaahhhhhh‘). To make up for that, here’s a very special Boxing Day eBay Watch for you instead. We've vintage designer boots, embroidered slippers, dancing shoes, Mukluks (since so many of you seem to love them) and some very crazy cowprint numbers for those who like attention!
Vintage Bruno Magli 1970's Boots (size 3 UK / 36 EU)
Embroidered Mukluk Boots in 'Tan' (size 4 UK / 6 US)
Ripcurl Embroidered Cowprint Boots (size 5 UK) (above left)
Pink Leather Beaded Shoe / Slipper (size 6 UK)
Purple & Metallic dancing shoes (size 5 UK)
Victoria Fox ( wife of Neil ‘Pop Idol Judge’ Fox) designs pretty but pricey shoes that sell in her Kings Road shop (and boutiques in the UK, US and Italy). Obviously, with that SW6 postcode come sky-high prices, but the good news for we high street gals is that she’s now designing the ‘V’ collection for Dorothy Perkins, full of shoes and boots named after celebrities. These pretty black suede flats are ‘Keira‘, now £20 in the sale (yes, we said 'sale'). The range is available in 'selected stores‘, which usually means if you live outside of London you’ve got no chance. But luckily, you can also order online.
Dior’s D’Trick shoe has become somewhat of a classic. And by classic, we mean everyone and their auntie is copying it. Fake Dior is so easy to come by now that everyone has a pink logo purse or a ‘Rasta’ handbag. These shoes, however, are a less obvious nod to (sir) Galliano. They take inspiration from the D'Trick but aren't complete rip-offs of the original design. We bring you all $460 of the D’Trick itself, side by side with Chinese Laundry’s ‘Shout’ at $65 and Faith’s ‘Checkit2’ at £55. Why not buy the cheap ones and use the money you save to go on holiday to Turkey where you can get your 'genuine' matching bag for €50!
Sometimes we have to show you a shoe simply because it has a great name. That’s the case with this, the ‘Bloody Mary’ from Russell & Bromley. It’s perhaps not worth the £145 price tag when you can get similar styles for much cheaper (check out the January sales), but it does have a certain 1930s charm about it. And come on! It’s called ‘Bloody Mary’, and everyone could do with one of those this time of year! It comes in two other colour schemes too, we're fancying the black and silver.
Good news for those on a budget, it’s not even Christmas and the sales have already started! Our favourite fashion footwear shop, Faith, have started drastically dropping prices on loads of their Winter designs, but you need to get in there fast to secure a bargain, especially if you’re shopping online, as the best shoes are selling out fast. We’re fond of ‘Naves’, a round-toed suede number with gold piping now reduced to £25 and also the funky red platform peep-toe ‘Nizzard’ (left, £25), which is perfect for wearing to Christmas parties and dancing around to Slade in!
Converse shoes. The last cool person to wear them was Marty McFly (remember ‘Back To The Future‘?), but now the Chuck Taylor shoe is enjoying a bit of a revival. The good thing is even if you’re not a fan of the actual shoe design, you can still waste a good couple of hours creating your own style on their website, complete with drag and drop lettering. Just click the 'Chuck Taylor' link on the converse homepage to start the fun! ‘Coming soon’ is the chance to actually buy what you create (we'll keep you updated on that). We’re not sure we’d wear our awful creation, though we had fun designing it. Next time mayble we'll stick to just writing about shoes, though?!
UPDATE: The customising service is now working completely, with the chance to buy the shoes you design (US only). For more information and the direct link, click here.
Last night’s UK premiere of Martin Scorsese’s new flick, ‘The Aviator’, provided lots of shoe envy moments, and we're not just talking the stars of the film. HRH Princess Beatrice upstaged mom, sis and half of Hollywood (ok, Kate Beckinsale…) by snuggling up to Leo DiCaprio in a gorgeous pair of burgundy satin courts not unlike the much hyped pleated satin Louis Vuitton’s (which, by the way, are now copied at ASOS in pink or gold for £25). Cate Blanchett wore the kind of killer heels most of us can only dream of, though the Red Or Dead ‘Miami’,(£59.99 at Schuh, pictured left) is a close copy, with a removable chain ankle strap instead of a black one. Finally, we do believe Jenny Falconer has been shopping at Faith, as her shoes look uncannily like the £50 ‘Narky’ design.
