School Ties

NecktieWhatever it was that inspired shoe designer Kristen Lee to make a pair of shoes from what looks like part of her old school uniform, we are truly thankful! These shoes (‘Jackie Scarf’ from Girlshop) have such great novelty value we had to show them off. And if they weren’t $288, we’d be snapping a pair up ready for a future School Disco club night. For those less impressed with comedy footwear, the ankle tie (no pun intended) is removable, so you could wear these as cute stripy mules instead. But really, why would you want to do that?

Playboy Bunnies for the feet

Pbslippers We’re still trying to decide whether Playboy merchandise is just kitsch enough to be cool, or whether it’s still too trashy for proper grown-ups. Maybe the silver diamante bunny encrusted sandals are a bit much, but the good thing is you don’t have to worry about being cool or grown up in the privacy of your own home. With that in mind, these fluffy white slippers with pompoms were too good to pass-up. We would tell a really good Playboy Bunny joke now, but that would be too easy…

Playboy Pompom Slippers (also in blue or pink) £15 at ASOS.

Weekly eBay round-up #4

We’ve got yet more selfish and indulgent ways to spend that well-earned Christmas bonus! Here’s our choices from this weekend’s many (many) eBay shoe auctions. This time we‘ve gone international with some of our finds, because there’s many a bargain to be found overseas, even with the extra shipping costs. Just stay away from the size 6.5 Manolo's, they’re mine!

Ebaymiu_1Lime green Jimmy Choo pumps (size 37.5)
Emma Hope pink & turquoise beaded mules (size 37)
Marni yellow and black pumps (size 7)
Miu Miu tweed and suede peep-toes (size 4.5) (left)
Rocket Dog silver ‘string’ ballet flats (size 6)

As always, happy bidding!

Ocean's 12 Premiere

KatiehLast night was the premiere of Ocean’s 12, the long-awaited sequel to the Ocean’s 11, which featured my two favourite things after shoes, Las Vegas and gorgeous men. In the absence of Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston, it was left to Catherine Zeta Jones and Lisa ‘aren’t you jealous I snagged George Clooney?’ Snowdon to inject some glamour into the proceedings. But since you couldn’t see their shoes, we’ll concentrate on Katie Holmes in black pointed courts instead. She may have been playing it safe, but Jimmy Choo pumps (£315, right) will always be beautiful, classic and sexy. Get your knock-offs from Office for £50 and team them with a little black shift dress to play at being a star. Chris Klein not included.

Emma Hope

Emmahope We’ve mentioned Emma Hope’s fabulous shoes on our eBay watch before, but it’s about time we gave everyone chance to swoon over the latest collection from the queen of British shoe designers. As well as working on her own label, Hope has created shoes for the likes of Paul Smith, Mulberry and Anna Sui to name but three. Her current line is a mixture of metallic leathers, funky animal prints and all-out glam with plush velvet and suede decorated with flowers, jewels and embroidery. We love these funky suede numbers (Lattice Strass, £369) which allow you to follow the winter trend for chunkier, platform shoes without going too clumpy. And they come in pink!

"I never wore Candies..."

CandiesThere’s a line in an episode of Sex & The City where Carrie’s ’gay husband’ Stanford accuses her of wearing Candies shoes (back in the days when she’d also buy Vogue instead of food because she felt it fed her more). But we remember Destiny’s Child modelling for Candies, so surely they’re not that bad? Well, the truth is, nine times out of ten they are, with gems like the ‘Frinjee’ shoe ($49.95 right), a ‘highlight‘ of the Winter collection. However, like any range, there’s the good and the bad. If you’re after something a bit more feminine, go for ‘Playerr, ($49.95)’ instead. Oh, and as difficult as it is, try to ignore Ashlee Simpson’s face on every page.

John Fluevog

FluevogWhen it comes to John Fluevog’s shoes, we have to side with the all-seeing, all-knowing Manolo when we say we’re not exactly sure these are our type of thing. In theory these chunky, odd shoes go against our favourite footwear aesthetics (high, strappy, sexy and totally impractical). But thousands of obsessed fans can’t be wrong, and his fun, quirky designs are quickly becoming cult items. If these babies invoke in you the same feelings we get at the sight of a pair of gold Jimmy Choo’s, get saving! A pair of ladies shoes come in at around $150-$200 (shown are ‘Honey‘, $195) with the even more outrageous ‘Couture Vog’ styles closer to $300.
