As far as we’re concerned, the Louis Vuitton satin pleated pump with ribbon trim is possibly the designer shoe of the season, being both wearable and pretty. But it has a price tag to match ($645, also available in pink, red, green or black). After being spotted on celebs like Christina Aguilera and Chloe Sevigny, it’s been selling out before anyone can get hold of it (as a result, pairs are going for almost $1000 on eBay). That’s why we’ve been on the case trying to find a cheap alternative, but it hasn’t proved easy, with copies selling out as quickly as the real thing. With the ‘net proving a shoe black hole, we finally found a pink pair for £20 in our trusty local TK Maxx. Fingers crossed, your local store will have them too!
If you’re one of the many women who has trouble finding nice knee-high boots to fit, search no more! Whether you have chunky ankles like me (I would blame myself, but it‘s Cadbury‘s fault really), or tiny calves that get lost in most boots, Duo of Bath can help. They make their boots in a variety of calf widths instead of one standard size. The good news is that the range is good too, with classic flats, trend-conscious styles and a ‘dress’ range of killer heels. The ones pictured here are Paola, £150, from the contemporary range. Pricey, but if you’ve been searching for boots to fit for years, it’s a small price to pay!
The wonderfully indulgent new book ‘Shoes and Shopping’ by Jo Hemmings is a fun look at over 35 women and their shopping obsessions, from the designer shoe girl who maxes out her credit cards on Prada boots to the woman who swoons over designer shoes and then spends hours searching out the cheap copies (remind you of anyone?). If you’re stuck for something to buy your shopaholic mates for Christmas, they’ll love this. It’ll make them feel very normal in comparison!
With three weeks left to christmas, you've just enough time to bid, receive and wear with pride those shoes you know Santa will neglect to bring you. We've scoured Ebay for some bargain finds and even some rabbit-friendly fur boots, if you're that way inclined.

Do you remember when owning a pair of Gola trainers was like volunteering to be bullied? How times have changed! Now girls who slip their feet into their pretty women’s range are the epitome of cool. Of course I have to say that, my trainers are Gola! People love the oriental embroidered satin numbers (which cost me a bargain £25 in Camden) so much someone even wanted a photo of them once! The new version of the style ('Speed Silk') can be picked up for £39.99 at shoe-shop.com. For more of a selection, the Gola Classics women’s range is perfect if you want comfy trainers without sacrificing girlie style, we love the Chaos design, pictured above.
The best way we can describe the US online shop Go Jane is ‘Primark for Yanks’. It’s crammed with fashion items for bargain-bin prices, and finding the good stuff requires a lot of time and patience. They optimistically name their shoes things like ‘Hermes’ and ‘Chic’, but whack less-than-chic $20 price tags on them. However, we do think there’s something quite endearing about the Milano 53 boots ($34.99) if you’re looking for an unusual way to wear (faux) fur this season. They’re more flattering than Mukluks, anyway…
Go Jane ship internationally, and at these prices, you might even avoid import taxes.
