But once we’ve welcomed in the New Year, it’s back to business as usual chez Shoewawa. Before we start on the cocktails, it’s time for this week’s eBay watch, a New Year’s Eve special full of (what else?) sparkly party shoes to suit all budgets.

The Topshop Sale

CroctopshopIt‘s become very cool to mix Topshop stuff with designer buys. Fashion editors come from New York especially to raid the Oxford Circus shop, and it‘s with a small amount of pride that you can reply “no, Topshop!” when a friend asks if your new top is Marc Jacobs (we’re now tirelessly working on “no, Primark” having the same effect). Now Topshop have a sale on, meaning beautifully cheap renditions of designer shapes are available at pocket-money prices. Case in point are these round-toe crocodile heels for £20.

To view items in the Topshop sale, click here, click the ’new’ tab and choose ’sale’. Get in there quick though, sale items are selling out fast.

A Fine Vintage

VintageAs a child, I spent many hours clomping around the house in my mother’s shoes, dreaming the day she‘d let me get my own pair of heels. I bought a pair of silver T-bar dancing shoes this year because I remember wearing mum’s when I was about five, and in a similar fit of nostalgia, a scroll through the amazing shoe collection at online vintage boutique Candy Says had me reminiscing of electric blue stiletto’s, Madonna bangles and lace fingerless gloves. Even for those who weren’t children of the 80’s, shoes like these fabulous polka dot and bow heels (£32), not to mention the platforms, 50s courts and 60s dolly shoes, are enough to make you forget ‘vintage’ is actually fashion speak for ‘second hand’.

Couture Flats

Belle We really wish we could wear heels all the time. But the truth of the matter is nobody except Carrie Bradshaw (and Mariah Carey, who probably gets piggybacks from her minders) can wear killer heels 24/7. Wouldn’t it be lovely if there were flat shoes that managed to be as sexy and feminine as the heels that we insist on wearing even though they give us blisters? Stand up Sigerson Morrison, whose ‘Belle’ line features these metallic flats. The lime green may not be your cup of tea, but they do also come in silver or purple. $298 is a crazy price, but if you’re going to buy expensive designer shoes, you may as well buy ones you can walk in. The Hollywould bow ballet pumps are also a good bet if you want to save yourself $100 but still buy ‘couture’ shoes. They come in various colours, but we’d go for the gold ones, so very Kirsten Dunst-esque.

Airport Safe Shoes

PrincessWhen we first saw that Zappos has a section dedicated to 'Airport Safe' shoes, we thought the world had finally gone loopy. Then we had flashbacks to LAX in September, and the woman in front of us being forced out of her metal spike-heeled boots before she could board her plane. With airport security as tight as it now is, you really do need to think about the steel content of your footwear as well as whether you put that nail file in your suitcase and not your hand luggage! Sadly much of Zappos choices seem to sacrifice style for security, though most Doc Martens and Uggs are airport safe. Since the main concern is comfort when flying, for our pick of the bunch we've gone for a trainer, the Reebok Classic Princess for $52.

Sergio Rossi

RossiThe Sergio Rossi website is one of those annoyingly over-designed ones which opens in a pop-up window and uses so much flash it’s impossible for us to link to the actual item we want to talk about. But we couldn't wait any longer to feature some Rossi shoes when we saw these nude metallic heels. These are the kind of shoes that make us want to take out another loan (or at least get another credit card). There are Sergio Rossi boutiques in most fashionable cities, see the website for a full list of stockists. As for prices, they're not listed, which translates as 'sky high'.

Mukluk Stockists

Mukluk2You’ve got your Christmas money burning a hole in your pocket, but what should you spend it on? Well judging by the amount of you who’ve told us off for disliking Mukluks, you want big fluffy boots to keep you warm for the rest of winter (just like Kate Moss, Beyonce, Paris Hilton and everyone else in celeb-land). But where can you buy them online? We’ve searched for the best stockists of the cult rabbit fur mocassin-based boot (and it’s more animal-friendly fakes). Many sites stocking the genuine article still have waiting lists or are sold out, but keep checking back for new stock and you might get lucky.

Read on for the stockists list (it's far too long to put on the main page!)
