Sometimes you see a shoe and it calls to you. You just know it's destined to grace your feet at some point. That's how I felt when I saw this completely over-the-top tie front peep-toe pump from Wild Pair ($54.99 at Bakers Footwear). I'm well aware that it's a love / hate shoe and this is a highly self-indulegent post. But please don't upset me by commenting on how much you hate it...it'll grow on you, I swear!
No matter how hard you try, you can't ignore the trend for platform shoes. Every designer worth mentioning was showing them for Summer, and even stiletto stawarts like Gina have admitted defeat with their own takes on the trend. The trick is to find something that manages to be feminine and chunky at the same time. Those of us born without the shrinking violet gene could try these gold leather Casadei heels for £114. It's either these or wedges, ladies!
Continuing the ‘Jelly Shoes’ theme, we’re well aware that the Melissa ‘Love System’ jelly sneaker has been around for a long time. What we didn’t realise was what a plethora of colours it come in, and not just 'look, you can see my socks' clear plastic. So now if you’ve ever wondered what would happen if you put your regular trainers into radioactive waste, you can see! You can even show it off to other people for $30.90. Don’t all rush at once!
Emilio Pucci, best known for big, mad, swirly prints, obviously isn't going to ‘do’ shoes like a normal person. So when we saw the words ‘Pucci Jellies’, we knew we wouldn’t find those god-awful plastic sandals everyone used to wear on holiday in the 80s. Oh no, Pucci’s Jelly Flower Mule ($690) is in its own league entirely. Do remember your foot covers the print, leaving you with a Perspex heel and a huge ‘jelly’ flower. Maybe not so unlike those 80s fashion disasters after all…
A night in watching Tenko DVD’s with mommy Shoewawa (the most stylish woman in her teaching college circa 1960-something) prompted some reminiscing about the glamorous 1940s (pre-prison camp). This lead us to Pin Up Girl’s range of retro-inspired shoes, which are perfect if you love the vintage look but can’t stand the thought of wearing other people’s shoes. These T-Bar shoes are $34. Now we just need to make gloves, hats and hankies fashionable too.
These are sequin embellished ballet flats from Urban Outfitters. We want them in every colour to wear with our Matthew Williamson kaftan tops and jeans from, umm, Gap. Of course, it’ll have to stop raining first. Until then, these are definitely inside shoes. Play Moroccan princess to your heart’s content for the bargain price of $34.
Jimmy Choo, the only brand who could possibly put a platform on a shoe, yet still manage to make it look dainty and ladylike. It kind of ruins the point of platforms all together as the rise is less than an inch and the heel is considerably more than that, but it's beautiful all the same. Start saving, The shoe is 'Macy', and comes in at a purse-emptying £360.
