Introducing Trashionista

Trashtiny_1
You may have noticed there've been fewer posts than usual this week - and now I can reveal why. We've been getting ready for the launch of yet another fab new Shiny Media blog! Trashionista is a fun and frank look at the world of women's fiction - from classics to chick lit and everything in between. We're tired of reviewers dismissing everything with a pastel cover as 'fluff', and we're bored of reading reviews written by people who haven't even read the book. The Trashionista crew actually read the books before they write about them, and also bring you news on the top authors, new releases and movie tie-ins. We don't think 'chick lit' is a dirty word - but if a book is trash, we'll definitely let you know!

As if that wasn't enough for you, those super Shiny peeps haven't stopped there. Also joining the line-up today are HDTV, Britain's first website devoted to bringing you all the news on High Definition TV, and the fantastic Pop Junkie, which dishes up reviews on great lost pop albums - those forgotten releases that should have been number one. Music fans won't want to miss out on that one!

Tequila gives me a high!

TequilaWho else loves the gold-trimmed military style jackets and waistcoats that are cropping up in just about every high street store going? They're a must-have for Autumn, and look perfect with a pair of sleek boots, but they can be difficult to wear at night without looking too harsh. Which is where these 'Tequila' shoes from French Connection (£70)come in. They'll add a dash of much-needed femininity to your outfit (try them with skinny jeans or a black pencil skirt) but the gold trim will help blend in the jacket. Perfect.

Can You Handle It?

SugarrainbootsYou'd be amazed how many people ask me questions about wellies (for the record Kate Moss wears Hunters and Tamara Henriques makes the best printed ones). You love them - quite possibly because, like me, you've ruined enough shoes stomping through the rain that you're just glad people are actually wearing wellies again. My latest love affair is with these kitsch rain boots from Sugar shoes. They remind me of being 5 years old again, and are exactly what wellies should be; fun, bright and child-like. I especially love the handle on the top! The 'Handle It' rain boots are $47.99 a pair and also come in black. In the UK try Office and Soletrader for the Sugar range.

Ugly Shoe Of The Week

Santanafug_1These 'Stir' sandals from Carlos by Carlos Santana once cost almost $90 a pair. Who the hell would pay $90 for these? The cheap looking heels, the naff print (on leather, not satin), the fact that they'd go with absolutely nothing...even at their reduced price of $58.99 they scream 'fugly'. I'm sure someone will love them, but as far as we're concerned they're a prime example of why Carlos Santana should have stuck to playing guitar.

D-Havz at ASOS

Dhavz2There's been a big buzz in fashion circles for the last year or so concerning the return of 70s shoe king Terry de Havilland. He disappeared from the world of designer footwear when his style of choice - the super glam platform - went out of fashion, but now he's back with a vengeance, and a diffusion line. D-Havz allows you to get that 70s retro style for less. Platforms like these are still £100 and not to everyone's tastes (I wouldn't be caught dead in them) but chances are they'll sell out quickly now they're available at ASOS.

Yay or Nay Wednesday #2

Yaynay2_1 You obviously loved our new Yay or Nay column last week - dozens of you left your views on Anthropologie's librarian-chic heeled loafers, and the result was a big fat nay! (I must admit, I saw that one coming). This week I've chosen something completely different, but equally as love/hate. These bronze boots with stacked heels come courtesy of Marc by Marc Jacobs, and cost a slightly scary $840. The question is, if money were no object, would you buy them? And more importantly, would you wear them? Bronze boots - Yay or Nay? Leave your comments and reasons below.

Urban Outfitters Web Exclusives

MisssuoI can spend hours browing round Urban Outfitters. Back when I was a student I went on regular pilgrimages to Kensington High Street to browse the rails of retro tees and gorgeous accessories. With stores now opening up outside of London (like the amazing new branch on Corporation Street in Birmingham) it's now much easier to get hold of the stock. Sadly they're not yet selling their stuff online in Britain yet (though it's coming in 2006) which means we're not able to get these 'web exclusive' Miss Sixty boots. Yanks can get them for $275, though. And if you're outside the US and really desperate, there's always American Goodies.
