Stella McCartney may not be her stepmother's biggest fan, but something tells me she was probably quite proud when Heather Mills-McCartney stormed into JLo's offices to show her exactly what happens to the animals who 'star' in her catwalk collections. With everyone from Jimmy Choo to Fendi and Valentino using mink, rabbit and (ugh) squirrel in their winter collections, it's nice to know someone can still make a good shoe without resulting to using fur. Vegan Stella doesn't even use leather in her collections, and still comes up with great designs like this rivet detail peep toe ($535).
Bad news for spike heel fans - it doesn't look like wedges are going anywhere soon. High street and high end collections were full of wedge boots for winter, and nobody does it better than the king of the wedge, Luc Berjen. His 'Lola' boot has it all. It's simple, it's sexy, it'll go with skirts or trousers, smart or casual, and it's available in three colours and two textures. I love the puple toned 'berry' suede version, but there's also a pink suede number, and a highly practical leather version in reddish-brown 'maroon'. They're £249 at Viva La Diva, or visit Luc Berjen's website for international stockists.
Have you got your berry coloured evening shoes yet? If not, it's about time you started looking. As always, rich cranberry and burgundy colours are hot Autumn trends, and footwear is an easy way to try the look no matter your skin colour. These sandals from Laundry by Shelli Segal also have the added appeal of a stone-encrusted bow on the vamp. They're $160 from Nordstrom, and would look fabulous with a victorian lace shirt and a tulip-hem skirt.
Hi, I am looking for a stunning pair of black Mary Janes. These will be my first pair of heels so they need to be comfortable, and a decent price as I am a student - Mary Jane
How cute that your first pair of heels will be your namesake shoes! To begin with, I'd advise you to go for something that's not too spiky, to help you get used to walking in heels. These Mary Jane courts from Schuh definitely fit the bill. They only have a kitten heel, rather than being stiletto, but the pointed toe means the shoes still have a grown-up look. Best of all, they're only £39.99, but are made of leather so they'll give better than cheap synthetic shoes. If you'd rather go for something less pointy, Schuh do a similar style in a chunkier heel with a round toe for the same price.
Marc Jacobs is to blame for all these sequinned shoes, you know. Two seasons ago he slapped a chunky heel onto a plimsoll, covered it in Dorothy-esque red sequins and sold it for upwards of £200. And that was the beginning of the end. It's difficult to wear full-on sequinned shoes for day, but Rocket Dog have come up with the answer in these slip-ons. They've cut the sparkle quota in half, toned down the colours and drastically reduced the price tag. The 'Positive Luxe' flat is £24.99 in black or bronze at Viva La Diva.
When I saw these boots, it was love at first sight. I actually like the brown version better, but there have been so many pairs of brown boots on this site in recent weeks that even I needed a change. The embroidered 'Marina' suede knee-highs are £85 from Faith, which if you ask me is a total bargain (and it needs to be, as boots like this require a whole new wardrobe to show them off). The embroidered peacock might not be everyone's cup of tea, but for me this boot blends together my two favourite styles - 60s chic (everyone needs a pair of kinky boots) and bohemian glam (peacocks are very Matthew Williamson). Snap them up before I do!
Thanks to Shoewawa reader Courtney for pointing out these gorgeous little numbers from Christian Louboutin. At $500 a pair, you'd have to be going out for a very special occasion to justify splashing out on these. Or maybe you have a very generous sugar daddy willing to buy them for you (if you do, please give him my number). Or perhaps you just like shoes, and have that Carrie Bradshaw-esque ability to wear the highest, strappiest designer numbers even when nipping to starbucks. If any of those apply, get shopping, these are stunning!
ps. Thanks to Meg for also pointing out that these are in fact Lacroix and not Louboutin. I can only say it must have been a very long day when I wrote this post...
