I've been telling you all for ages that Clarks are cool again, and as if we needed it, there's now more proof as the high street staple makes its debut at London Fashion Week. Clarks have teamed up with designers Antoni & Alison to provide inspiration for a line of shoes that compliment their Summer 06 line. The classic 40s style courts are based on an old Clarks shoe called 'Cruz'. While you may have trouble getting hold of the customised catwalk shoes above, the good news is that Clarks will be stocking 'Cruz' in sherbet pink and black next Summer for a bargain £29.99. They won't hit the shops until March, and something tells me they'll sell out fast.
If you'd have told me a few years ago that Shannon from Home & Away would end up dating Ali G and starring in movies with Owen Wilson, I would have laughed in your face. But it happened, and now Isla Fisher is up for a role in Desperate Housewives. Sadly, her Emmy ensemble was a huge case of 'right shoes, wrong dress'. The strange sheer boho number she chose does nothing for her fabulous figure, but her Choos saved the day. Her footwear of choice was the classic Jimmy Choo criss-cross sandal. You can get the gold at Saks for $455, or white satin for £238 at the Net-a-Porter sale.
Someone really needs to tell Love to let the Audrey Hepburn thing go. So she played her in a TV mini-series a few years ago. So did Emmy Rossum, but she's learned to move on. Bearing a slight resemblance to the chic screen legend doesn't necessarily mean you have to spend the rest of your life in prom dresses with backcombed updo's. It's not that Jen's organza Emmy dress looks bad, but it's so predictable. As are the shoes - black, simple, safe. We'd like to have seen a bit of modern sparkle, a la Guiseppe Zanotti, to update the look. These $389 sandals would have been perfect. Take heed, ms Hewitt!
Another Emmy-going celeb who's obviously been visiting Shoewawa (or something like that) is everyone's favourite fashion disaster, Fergie (of Black Eyed Peas fame, not the ginger ex-Royal). Even the fabulous Fug girls would have trouble picking fault with Ferg's fashion-forward puffball dress and Louboutin combo. Ok, so the dress wouldn't suit everyone, but it's a big improvement on the usual car-crash wardrobe she sports. And those shoes? Well, we were talking about them only last week...
Where to start on the events of yesterday? Not only was is time for the stars of US TV to show off their gladrags (and hide their shoes with floor-length hemlines) at the Emmy's, but it was also the first day of London Fashion Week, complete with requisite PETA members crashing the catwalk at Julien MacDonald's show (despite the fact that his Summer 06 collection didn't actually feature any fur). While I pore over the photos from yesterday to bring you more highlights, I must mention Scrubs star Judy Reyes, who wore these Rene Caovilla heels to the Emmy's. She's obviously a Shoewawa fan - we first raved about them in July!
In the rare moments that I'm not blogging about shoes (or bags, or eBay, or teen style...) I do actually write full-length pieces too. My most recent bit of moonlighting comes in the form of a guide to driving shoes on behalf of Norwich Union, who recently conducted a survey that revealed a lot of women in the UK drive in flip-flops (tut tut). In order to try and pursuade you lot that you can do safe and stylish, I've picked some car-friendly footwear to suit all types of shoe-fiend.
