Yay or Nay Wednesday #9

Yaynay9It's Wednesday, and we all know what that means! Time for you to cast your votes on a shoe. Last week I asked you to vote on a pair of sequinned stiletto courts, and it was a close call with 16 Yays and 19 Nays. I suppose I should reveal (for those of you who did like them) that they were Laundry by Shelli Segal's 'Jenna' shoes, at $201.95 a pair. But enough about last week...on to this week's shoe - this crazy velvet and rhinestone sandal. What do you think? Sexy, sparkly chic or a Halloween costume gone wrong? Yay or Nay, and why?

nay... too much going on!

Posted by: Lily | November 9, 2005 3:23 PM

Holy Tanya Turner, just looking at those shoes makes me want to seduce an old giffer on the edge of a coronary, have considerable breast augmentation, sleep with the pool boy and top up my tango tan. All in a martini/ cocaine fueled haze. Wow not sure whether that's a yay or a nay. Beats going to the spar for a twix to cheer me up though.

Posted by: TheRetailJunkie | November 9, 2005 3:26 PM

Those shoes are awful. Big time nay!!!!

Posted by: Katherine Anne | November 9, 2005 3:55 PM

Ugh. NAY! I can't quite figure out what's going on with them, but they look like an entire outfit gone wrong on one's foot! What does the orange have to do with the rhinestones or the - is that mother of pearl? - and gold too? This is an unweildy party on the foot. Nay, nay, nay.

Posted by: Shuzluva | November 9, 2005 4:03 PM

Nay! Blue and orange? Bleah!

Posted by: Jordan | November 9, 2005 4:10 PM

NAY. I am without words to explain how wrong these are.

Posted by: Cortney | November 9, 2005 4:14 PM

Hmmm. I wouldn't buy them myself, so Nay. But they might be ok on the right person.

Posted by: angel | November 9, 2005 4:29 PM

erm, I think, on careful reflection, NAY!

Don't actually mind the jewelled bit, which would be fabulous with a tan and a lovely pedi, but the orange velvet is icky. Piled all on on top of each other (throw in a gold heel or two) and this is pure car-crash.

Posted by: Ericajane | November 9, 2005 4:31 PM

A world of NAY!!! Unless you're playing dress-up with your three year old, or trying to outdo the other members of the harem, NO NO NO! :-P

Posted by: OzLady | November 9, 2005 6:18 PM

Hee heeee, TheRetailJunkie!! S/he summed it up! A Nay from me, too!

Posted by: Heidi | November 9, 2005 6:37 PM

Nay..like the person before me said "too much going on" with the orange, velvet, and jewels.

Posted by: Trisha | November 9, 2005 6:38 PM

Nay. The jeweled ornamentation is waaayy overdone. Retailjunkie, thanks for your inspired insight! You should be guest columnist.

Posted by: tom | November 9, 2005 6:41 PM

No way!

Posted by: Kristina | November 9, 2005 6:55 PM

NAY! The orange velvet clashes terribly with the light blue sparkly bits. Also, the heart shaped jewel is too big to go with the rest of the stones. All the different parts of this shoe are crying for attention.

Posted by: Ulrika | November 9, 2005 7:06 PM

Nay! I hate shoes with things that go across the top of the foot, and this is a excessive example of the style. Especially that heart shape at the top - uggh!

Posted by: oliviacw | November 9, 2005 7:24 PM

A big fat NAY!

Posted by: Radina | November 9, 2005 7:53 PM

Yay, these shoes look really cheap and tacky.. But if they weren't orange I'd wear them! haha, sometimes cheap and takcy is just RIGHT!

Posted by: Shelly | November 9, 2005 8:18 PM

Yay - If only they were for the bohemian looking to slum it out as a hippie under duress. Or some such.

Posted by: Soon | November 9, 2005 8:32 PM

Nay, there's no excuse for wearing a chandelier on your feet!

Posted by: Kiali | November 9, 2005 8:59 PM

Big NAY!

Posted by: Susana | November 9, 2005 9:00 PM

I think I'm blind from looking at those. Thanks a lot, Shoewawa. NAY!

Posted by: circus | November 9, 2005 9:11 PM

all i can do is blink at them...NAY

Posted by: terri | November 9, 2005 9:21 PM

Good Lord those are awful!

Posted by: Peggy | November 9, 2005 9:28 PM

Nay. Too many colors involved.

Posted by: Mindy W. | November 9, 2005 9:44 PM

Nay, non niet, nada - unless you were gong to a belly dancing convention

Posted by: Deb | November 9, 2005 10:37 PM

Nay nay nay! The belly dancing reference is right, but I bet you can't be sinuous in these with that heel. And teh colors! Yeech!

Posted by: CaliGirl | November 9, 2005 10:47 PM

I am normally a huge fan of the gorgeous draping jewel/ chains on a shoe. It's indulgent and over the top, but hey! That's fashion. However this shoe is a car wreck. At casual first glance, it could be beautiful and then you notice the orange velvet strap which is akin to that of cheap 80s lounge chairs. And then you notice the weird array of stones and jewels and you realize that while this shoe has all the potential to be gorgeous, it just does not work at all.

The point of my rambling: nay.

Posted by: Preveena | November 9, 2005 11:29 PM

Yay...I love jewels for the feet. I would rock these.

Posted by: Tania | November 9, 2005 11:39 PM

Surely that's a necklace? Yuck! NOOOO!

Posted by: Johanna | November 10, 2005 12:25 AM

WOW, if I were 5, I would want to cut off the jeweled part and play dress up with it. Way too much going on. That orange velvet isn't helping either. NAY

Posted by: Miranda | November 10, 2005 2:27 AM

Oddly enough, I like it. I can imagine wearing them in Vegas, if nowhere else. They're quite over-the-top, but would be kitschy fun with an otherwise simple outfit. However, the color gives me pause...it looks rather orange in the photo. Yucky.

Posted by: Groovymarlin | November 10, 2005 3:28 AM

yuck...bif NAY on these...way too busy and they look painful to figure out

Posted by: Dina | November 10, 2005 3:31 AM

NAY! maybe right for a vegas showgirl, but come on! on a real person? I don't think so!

Posted by: Diana | November 10, 2005 7:09 AM

NAY NAY NAY NAY....I could not finish listing all the things wrong with these pair. Orange anyone?

Posted by: Linda | November 10, 2005 9:42 AM

For a moment there I thought it was Ugly Shoe of the Week time... what is this supposed to be? Maybe good for Mrs Solice, the afore mentioned Hollywood bimbo and the Vegas showgirl, but even they will have their doubts, as this orange jeweled velvety victorian-esque piece is just too much to take in all at once. All those jewels.... and anyway whats up with the sandal, it November!! So... Nay

Posted by: Marta | November 10, 2005 10:20 AM

Nay. Wearing these would look like your feet were going to an Indian wedding. By themselves, as the bride.

Posted by: Taryn | November 10, 2005 11:07 AM

NAY! theres way to much going on around the ankle and it makes them look kinda tacky.

Posted by: hana | November 10, 2005 11:31 AM

Nay from me, they look too much like the 'Princess' shoes we used to sell as part of a dress up set at the bookshop.

Nay from Lisa, the charms could rub your feet, you could fall of the hells, they look like they might jangle while you walked.

Posted by: Jenbob | November 10, 2005 11:49 AM

these shoes are great! I love over the top fashion!

Posted by: veronica | November 10, 2005 1:22 PM

Nay. I prefer my jewelry around my neck, as my best feature resides slightly below that. I do not want to draw that much attention to what the years have done to my feet.

Posted by: Artchicken | November 10, 2005 6:23 PM

YUCK!! Nay, nay, nay...

Posted by: Verity | November 10, 2005 7:20 PM

YUCK!! Nay, nay, nay... whats with the orange velvet? Very tacky.

Posted by: Verity | November 10, 2005 7:21 PM

Nay, it is so much going on in that shoe

Posted by: CeCe | November 10, 2005 7:30 PM

Nay nay nay! I really don't think that orange and velvet should be combined, there's just too much jewelage, and too much foot on show! I can't see how it stays on your foot, either, perhaps by sheer will power?

Posted by: Anna | November 10, 2005 8:58 PM

OMG. Am I the only one looking at this shoe. If it's not yay I don't know what is. The show is beautiful. You just got to have the right outfit and you will be the bomb.

Posted by: bb1 | November 10, 2005 9:02 PM

Yay. it is sparkly. good for evening.

Posted by: sasa | November 11, 2005 3:46 AM

Yay!!! I think I am one of only 3 people who actually likes 'em. They have such potential! I think they'd look great on my feet!

Posted by: Serenity | November 11, 2005 4:42 AM

Ugh. No thanks. This is what would happen if paris hilton got coked up and decided to design a shoe she called "Chic-o-lantern." Then she'd take off her bra, vomit all over her coke dealer, and head over to Anna Nicole's place so they can watch Pay per view and prank Nicole Richie together. That's why we vote Nay to Paris, Coke, and these shoes.

Posted by: rach | November 11, 2005 7:54 AM

YAY!!! They would be sooo cool to have in your wardrobe, just to show people.
They'd also look amazing on Cathrine Zeta Jones.

Posted by: shmeez | November 11, 2005 5:25 PM

My inner Victoria Beckham is willing me to say yay but in the name of good taste I just can't. The design of the shoe is just a little unbalanced for my liking so it is a NAY from me.

Posted by: Slurvely | November 15, 2005 3:29 PM

Ok, I have to say soemithng to all these nays....I assume, just like I am, you're all girls in between the ages of liek 10 to 15,right? And won't be going to many mfancy or party like events to wear something so eye catching liek right? Well I say a deffinate yay, you might have to be the type of person wih the attitude to pull off the most outrageous outfits, but hey, these shoes are not tacky....they're more like wild or kind of Gwen Stafani style...trend setting...i say a most deffinate yay on the right occasion I'd look forward to wearing these.

Posted by: Dylan | November 19, 2005 8:02 PM

Dylan, most of the readers are much older than 10 to 15!

Posted by: Ms Shoewawa | November 19, 2005 9:14 PM

nay, overkill

Posted by: julien | March 2, 2006 4:27 PM

Once again..a socialite type person could get away with it but ur average person without money and wanting to look like they are over-the-top rich...definatly not.
