Ugly Shoe Of The Week

Uglybalen_1
Not only do Balenciaga make fabulously overpriced motorcycle bags, they now also have a wonderful line of wearable, practical and flattering platform shoes. Oh, hold on, my bad. They actually have these. Coming to a boutique near you this Autumn. Run for your lives!

I'd happily wear these over the VS crochet pumps of the last post!

OMG!!!! I thought I'd look to see if anything new was posted, I almost spit my coffee out on my screen after I saw the pics of these shoes! Definitely scary.

I'm at loss for words, those look like the kind of shoe the devil would wear if it were a woman and decided to visit me in a nightmare, WTF??!!!

I can't help but be reminded of Chinese foot binding- I saw some particular gruesome pictures of a feet that had been bound where the toes has been crumpled underneath the sole to the ideal foot length of 3 inches. These women were in such pain from the process that they had to scoot around on chairs or crawl everywhere. I think I'm onto these designers and their sadistic (and let's face it, UGLY)attempts to keep a good woman down!

Yes, I really agree with the last comment - that was the same thought that occured to me and that I was goiing to post. It's actually offensive that designers want women to wear these terrible objects!

Posted by: Deb | March 3, 2006 11:51 AM

Foot binding! That is EXACTLY what I thought of too!!

Don't you ever just wonder if they make these things and then sit around corporate laughing their heads off that women actually *buy* them!?!?

Posted by: OzLady | March 3, 2006 12:35 PM

totally agree with the last three comments!!
Chinese foot binding comes to mind.

But you know what.....don't be suprised if in a few months, Jessica Simpson/Paris Hilton/some other random "celeb" gets a pair and everyone starts following suit.

Dang! They are awfully hideous though.

In the ever so apt words of Miss CatwalkQueen....WHY?

Posted by: tordiva | March 3, 2006 1:09 PM

You know, I want to disagree with the last few comments. These have a degree of hideous-ness, yes, but it mostly comes from being an exageration of current shoe trends, namely the platform. Although I'd never consider wearing them, I think they have some redeeming aesthetic qualities, like the combination of color and texture on the green & black pair, and the plush-looking blue suede trim on the t-straps. These are definitely the shoe version of haute couture--something that will only ever be seen on the runway and nobody would wear for real.

You know what, in a weird Vivienne Westwood kinda way, I don't mind these. I actually quite like the shape and height (yes, I would wear them), it's more the colour that's off-putting to me. The blue/black pair are ok, would love to see them in other colours! Or is that just me? LOL!

Posted by: Gemma | March 3, 2006 4:14 PM

I agree with Gemma's comments. I love them! They're very distinct and different. I might wear them but not sure with what outfit. The plush dark blue ones are my favorite. Shoes with an edge are definitely hard to come by these days.

"Oh, hold on, my bad" - Hee!! This is the funniest post I've ever seen on here, and truly awful shoes.

Posted by: Allison | March 4, 2006 12:13 AM

But can you walk in them?

Posted by: Heidi | March 7, 2006 7:59 PM

I actually really like the blue pair, although I admit they are totally over-the-top and also remind me of foot binding. But they are so srtange they are awesome; real statement shoes. I don't think the green ones are wearable though.

I've been seeing these is magazines and I think they are the most God-awful, fugly shoes I've ever seen. They indeed look like hooves. Anyone who would were these needs their eyes checked.

Love must be blind then, 'cause I just shelled out $1500 for a pair of these in 38. Impossible to buy, really. Susan's in California had a pair. Fashion is subjective, and really, it only appeals to those who like the "edgy" Subkoff-kind of fashion. I love these because they are radical, and almost a fashion anomaly. I plan to wear them with anything distinctive, be it a plaid skirt (as was intended), cut-off black pants, stovepipes, anything to exacerbate its extreme shape. Plus, they're comfy! They feel like any other platform, really.
