Yay or Nay Wednesday

YaynayblueThis week for your yay or nay I've found something very unusual which I'm sure will get some very strong reactions. Try not to read the previous comments before you post your own, and go with your gut when you vote on these metallic pumps with striped wedge heels. Are they eye-poppingly cool or eye-scrunchingly awful? Yay or Nay, and why?

wow

the colour is lovely

not tooo keen on the stripes on the wedge .. but its wearable

yay from me!!

Posted by: Sharmin | April 5, 2006 4:31 PM

hard to wear metallic blue, the wedge is too contrasting to the rest of the shoe, the stripes on the wedge are too much.

all in all, this shoe is too busy and not very practical.

NAY.

Posted by: lulu | April 5, 2006 4:34 PM

Hm. They're not awful, I guess, but they'd be hard to wear, and they don't give much for all that effort. So Nay from me.

Posted by: K | April 5, 2006 4:44 PM

Yay! I wouldn't wear them myself but they are very cool!

Posted by: Xan | April 5, 2006 4:53 PM

naynaynay. really don't want to see trailer park trash metallic shoes anymore. if britney spears were a wedgie, she might be this one...

Posted by: Stella Mayfair | April 5, 2006 4:57 PM

Yay. Awesome color and the heel is interesting.

Posted by: Melanie | April 5, 2006 5:05 PM

NAY - because of the blue metallic color. I'd imagine it becoming ugly after a couple of wearing, because the creases would show more than on other shoes.

Posted by: Ivy | April 5, 2006 5:05 PM

I love them! I think they are so funky!! Great great shoe

Posted by: Carlene | April 5, 2006 5:06 PM

From a wearability standpoint - nay. I have looked at metallic pastels before and just cannot imagine ever actually wearing them - especially in a full-on shoe, not just strappy sandals.

From an esthetic perspective - maybe a yay. I'm not sure about the blue shade, but I actually really like the shape and the stripes on the wedge.

If these came in a brown, or even a copper, I might give them a full out yay (even on the wearability front).

Posted by: oliviacw | April 5, 2006 5:11 PM

YAY! These are the coolest shoes I've seen in a long time.

Posted by: Suzi | April 5, 2006 5:13 PM

NAY! Yack- weird metallic blue colour? No thanks. And mixed with crazy striped heel, it looks like a freaky genetic mutation of two completely different shoes gone horribly horribly wrong!

Posted by: Lorna | April 5, 2006 5:54 PM

interesting to think of what to wear them with. where are they from please??

Posted by: shoe nuff yes i do | April 5, 2006 6:22 PM

I love the shoes, just wish the heel was a solid instead of a stripe.

Posted by: kath | April 5, 2006 6:26 PM

Yay - I usually don't go for super bright metallics, but I like the shape and the stripes are just awesome.

Posted by: circus | April 5, 2006 6:28 PM

Totally NAY

Posted by: lilimj | April 5, 2006 6:58 PM

Yay, what an interesting design. I like the shape and blue color (though I don't really like metallics) and granted they are not the most practical shoes, they would be fun.

Posted by: iheartpink | April 5, 2006 7:03 PM

Very cool. I love wedges, and these are unusual, bright, and pretty.

Posted by: Scarpediem | April 5, 2006 7:11 PM

NAY! There is nothing good about these.

Posted by: Mindy | April 5, 2006 7:13 PM

YAY...love them, very retro, love the colour!

Posted by: Charlotte | April 5, 2006 7:23 PM

Fabulous upper, I adore the color!

But the heels...the heels are MAKING MY EYES BLEED! STOP!

nay.

Posted by: Shuzluva | April 5, 2006 7:42 PM

Good G'd NAY! A thousand times nay! Who in the world designs these - colorblind, misogynist dwarves!?!?

That's it- I'm 5'1, but it's all flats for me this spring and summer. All the heels are grossly f'ugly!

Posted by: OzLady | April 5, 2006 7:43 PM

NAY- dont like them at all, unwearable colour and wierd heel, they look really tacky.

Posted by: Kirsty | April 5, 2006 8:17 PM

Hmmmm... I would stick my foot in them if I ran into them for $19.99 at Ross. But they're not amazing... though I could think of a few outfits for them...
So I guess I say yay, just b/c they're not Nay. More like "eh."

Posted by: Kristina | April 5, 2006 8:22 PM

Nay, nay and nay again. The metallic blue is ok but the heel... why?!! It is so clumpy and thick brown stripes are just plain wrong. It looks like someone very stupid mixed up two pairs of shoes.

Posted by: Camilla C | April 5, 2006 8:22 PM

I color is great, the heel is a little to tacky. Not too crazy about the heel, but with the right clothing attire could be fun.....

Posted by: Yuclemia | April 5, 2006 8:23 PM

Nay. It looks like they took two good shoe styles and mixed them together to make something disastrous: an eighties-era spiky pump and a sleek wedge. Delicious on their own, disgusting together.

Posted by: Madeline | April 5, 2006 8:42 PM

Nay. The metallic blue part looks cool, almost 80s-rock-star-glam, but the heel looks almost like earthy-meets-mod. Too many different styles to put in one shoe.

Posted by: Casey | April 5, 2006 8:43 PM

I just bought some skinny jeans and was wondering what shoes to wear with them and I saw these shoes and a heavenly match was made in my mind's eye. Yay!

Posted by: Jen | April 5, 2006 8:52 PM

Xanadu Redo - Yikes! Nay!

Posted by: Artchicken | April 5, 2006 9:33 PM

Really, really NAY. It is so freaking ugly.

Posted by: Peeved Michelle | April 5, 2006 9:36 PM

urgh far too busy for my liking. i'd wear the stripy wedge with a more neutral colour and open toe style on the top, and i'd wear the metallic blue as a pair of heels, but both styles together is far too much and they don't really compliment each other. NAY!

Posted by: tracey | April 5, 2006 9:41 PM

Yum! I would buy these, put them in my closet and take them out every few weeks just to look at them!

Posted by: Kim | April 5, 2006 10:10 PM

Yay: Would love these peeping out of a pair of dark denim skinny jeans for a bit of flash. I think it's a great outlandish take on a preppy style.

Posted by: Laura | April 5, 2006 10:15 PM

NAY.

They look like shoes you used to buy for Barbies. So cheap and fake-looking.

Terrible.

x

Posted by: Hollie | April 5, 2006 10:22 PM

Yay-ish. I love the colour but I'm not too crazy about the heel (plus i'm 5"10 so I really don't need the extra height), if they were flats i'd be rushing out to buy them, as they are - yay, but on someone else.

Posted by: Kylie | April 5, 2006 11:16 PM

i think with the right outfit they would be super cute. just plain they look a bit gross

so, yay

Posted by: Anne | April 5, 2006 11:20 PM

Definitely Nay. The stripes on the wedge is weird looking!

Posted by: Jessica | April 6, 2006 12:01 AM

Yay! a clean streak of metallic color grounded on a neutral striped heal, the only thing I don't really like is the sharpness of the stipes, they should try softening it up with a bit of texture

Posted by: El | April 6, 2006 2:07 AM

nay nay nay, they are tacky and they look cheap. metallic blue is bad enough, but with a wedge? And a strpey one at that! ewww

Posted by: eilidh | April 6, 2006 2:09 AM

hideous heel..cool color...change the heel!!

Posted by: Anna S. | April 6, 2006 2:54 AM

love it, it's unique.

Posted by: reader | April 6, 2006 3:18 AM

Nay. I have a pair similar to these (from Tara Subkoff for Easy Spirit) and they are the most uncomfortable shoes I have ever owned. They look hot though...

Posted by: ashley | April 6, 2006 3:39 AM

personally i think they're awesome. i kinda want them really really badly now. they are very different. i think i'd like them better if they were black instead of blue but they are still fabulous and i love the heel.

Posted by: catherine | April 6, 2006 3:55 AM

nay. i like the heel and i like the blue but together, it's all a bit too trendy and showboaty for me.

Posted by: thuy | April 6, 2006 4:16 AM

Gag. NAY! I would totally point and laugh at the dumba$$ who wore these!

Posted by: Heidi | April 6, 2006 4:17 AM

NAY! There's absolutely nothing that justifies combining metallic blue and oddly-toned horizontal stripes. I feel sorry for whoever's responsible for this because they obviously wasted their time.

Posted by: Thu | April 6, 2006 6:17 AM

YAY. The contrast of colours grows on you.

Posted by: fiona | April 6, 2006 6:37 AM

Nay, metallic blue & stripes on the heel! Too much!

Posted by: dmd | April 6, 2006 8:13 AM

Nay, the color combination is way off.
Plus... wedges??!! Whyme, whynow??

Posted by: Christian | April 6, 2006 9:04 AM

Again! I must protest! there is no option for 'vomit'. I must insist that henceforth, this weekly coloumn is renamed 'Yay, Nay or Vomit' :D

Vomit

This is a crime again beauty & shoes.

Posted by: Kitty | April 6, 2006 12:32 PM

Yuk

Posted by: Syreeta | April 6, 2006 1:33 PM

Just read the posting above mine. I would like to change my mind I choose vomit.

Posted by: Syreeta | April 6, 2006 1:49 PM

Yay! The color is lovely and the wedge heel is really interesting.

(Too bad I can't think of a single thing in my closet that I could wear them with)

Posted by: Peggy | April 6, 2006 1:52 PM

Yummy. Candy for my toes! I love the color and I'm IN love with the wedge. Definitely an eye catcher and I'd wear them with dark blue skinny jeans and a cute halter. Great summer evening shoe.

Posted by: ShoeGurl | April 6, 2006 6:34 PM

NAY...They are too weird for me. The blue is too shiny and the stripes on the wedge are strange...

Posted by: Sarah-Jean | April 6, 2006 6:42 PM

Ew.... er I mean 'nay'
those are vomitous

Posted by: Mea Culpa | April 6, 2006 6:54 PM

anything by georgina goodman is a "yay".
she is a legend.
i like these-the colour is fab.

Posted by: hayley | April 6, 2006 7:06 PM

The blue colour and finish is lovely - I don't own a pair in this colour :O BUT it's all let down by the completely incompatible heel, which is a nasty shape as well. Booo! Overall, it has to be a Nay, I'm afraid.

Posted by: Arnez | April 6, 2006 7:33 PM

NAYNAYNAYNAY! Each of the two colors on their own would not have been good at all, as the heel most resembles an ugly upholstery fabric, and the blue looks (in such a large dose) trashy and overdone. But together? Doom. Not even the decent shape can save this shoe.

Posted by: mairim | April 6, 2006 8:31 PM

I'm surprised you even asked! They're dreadful.
(Now I'll read the other 59 comments)

Posted by: Bee | April 6, 2006 10:41 PM

YAY! I love colorful shoes and wedges- these are perfect. I think they catch attention nicely and not in a bad way. i would wear the hell out of these.

Posted by: Sarah | April 7, 2006 1:10 AM

nay- too disco

Posted by: kim | April 7, 2006 4:21 AM

I like this shoe...it is both ecclectic and simple. The metallic blue is a great color, and would match with more than it looks like it would. I would prefer this shoe without the wedge bottom as a simple blue flat. However, I would still wear it as a wedge.

YAY!

Posted by: Steffi | April 7, 2006 5:11 PM

i am deeply upset and offended by these shoes. so much so that i cannot say anything further about them.

that's a nay.

Posted by: amie | April 7, 2006 5:39 PM

Yay. Super funky and cute. I love closed-toe wedges, but they can look very "something your mom wore in the late '70s." Here, however, the combo of metallic upper and striped wedge heel keeps it from that.

But then again, I like John Fluevog (a lot) and you have panned him before.

Posted by: rose | April 7, 2006 6:33 PM

Nay!

What on earth could you wear with those suckers and still look cute?

Posted by: Kiki | April 7, 2006 9:21 PM

This color is nay for me. Check out a similar pair that is tan with handwoven detail on www.shopdebello.com (Melody Nat Low shoes).I definitely would be cought wearing the tan version, but I just couldn't not wear the metallic blue.

Posted by: Melinda | April 8, 2006 3:52 PM

NAY...NAY...NAY!! The only thing I like about these shoes is the color...kinda pretty. What a horrible design though...YUCK! The stripes on the wedge look ridiculous and don't fit at all. All in all, a simply ugly shoe.

Posted by: Cherry | April 8, 2006 4:50 PM

not worth £220!!!!!!

Posted by: Kirsty | April 8, 2006 6:58 PM

Looks like two different shoe designs joined up. So a definite Nay from me!

Posted by: Beautybabe | April 8, 2006 8:57 PM

Nay. Metalic Blue just looks so horrible, and the stripes don't work, either.

Posted by: Caroline | April 13, 2006 5:09 PM

NAY

It's as if I'm looking at two different shoes.

On top a shoe great for night life
On bottom the wedge heel for a casual day outfit.

If the colors of the two were coordinated it might be a Yay.
