Topshop shoes - why so pricey?

TopshopspotWhen people I meet find out I edit this site, they have a tendency to start firing off shoe-related questions. "Can you get me free shoes?" (no), "Can you get me a discount on shoes?" (no), "Can you find me these Prada shoes I wanted five years ago that sold out across the entire universe?" (no). Another one that's been common of late is "when did Topshop shoes get so expensive?". I blame the current trend for being 'ironic' and shopping on the high street even if you can afford designer stuff (see Cheryl 'WAG' Tweedy in her New Look top). I love these spotty Topshop platforms, but I've definitely got better things to spend £100 on. When did high street become so high priced?

*EXACTLY* what I thought when I saw them!

I've been pondering on that for some time now. I just don't get it - I haven't noticed the quality going up to match the new price tags.

I have to agree with the above, you don't seem to get any more for your money. I'm too unemployed to afford anything right now!

I've noticed this as well. That's why I don't tend to go into Top Shop when I'm in town, because the stuff costs so much for a high street store, and yet the quality doesn't really match the price tag. Glad I'm not the only one who's noticed this!

My first impression of those shoes went something like, "Ooooh I love them!...or wait...are those polka dots? Hmmm.... I don't know about that..."

Now I don't know what to think! Definitely wouldn't spend 100 on them... Well, it would be even more in the USA.

Do they have a topshop in the US?? Ohhhhhh and talking of copies, Primark has done a fabulous version of the Christian Louboutin platform pumps (you no the ones everyone has been wearing with the stacked wedge bit and the rounded toe usually in black?) for a wopping £15! They look very similar to the topshop "copies", that were £45!

nah, i dont think theres a topshop here in the us. i did see a british topshop when i went to london for spring break and i have to agree that the prices were steeper than i thought theyd be considering what my friends i was visiting had told me beforehand

No Topshop in the US, though they are planning to open a New York branch and expand the site to offer international shipping on everything.

there's topshop back here in singapore where i live. actually, a couple of branches. i find it ironic that there's no topshop in the US when there's one...or should i say many branches.. on my little island. :\ and its as pricey over here as well. at least for me. i've stopped shopping at topshop altogether. i adore the stuff (especially the shoes!) but its just too expensive. but since you girls come from the US and UK, if you come down here, stuff here will be so much cheaper. :)

I work for shoes by topshop, the first stand alone topshop shoe shop in manchester. I dont think topshop's prices for shoes have increased at all. The shoes you have pictured above are from the premium range which is why they are at a higher price. if you are looking for amazing quality then you have to buy designer. the high street is not the place to find something different or of quality. things are produced as quickly and cheaply as possible. its all about dissposable fashion with the high street. topshop shoes are 'fashion shoes' they are only ment to last for as long as a season or so. personally i hate shops like primark as they are ruining the fashion industry, topshop isnt any better really. oh and the shoes in the pic... i got them for 9 pounds in the sale!
