Yay or Nay Wednesday

YncreamTo shake things up, there are new Yay or Nay rules just for this week. You can't say 'hideous', 'cute' or 'ewwwww' in your comment (too obvious), or use annoying internet acronyms (OMG! WTF?). And you can only use one exclamation mark. In return, I'll stop putting an ellipsis in every other post, I won't talk about what my mum thinks of my shoes and I won't mention those ruddy Christian Louboutin Bruges ever again*. So, Yay or Nay and why?

*ok, maybe not.

Nay. Beige, patent, I don't like either. Too high, too chunky, nahhh

Posted by: Julia | June 28, 2006 4:43 PM

nay. don't like the color, the shine or the height.
oh, an thanks about the bruges ;)

Posted by: lingping | June 28, 2006 4:56 PM

Nay. They look like cheap stripper shoes you would see on the transsexuals in Thailand. Or they could look like Jesus sandals in the Mary of Magdalene version.

Posted by: Alicia | June 28, 2006 5:22 PM

Nay. I think these are utterly hideous and impractical. It's one thing to suffer in the name of beauty (though by no means I condone it) but suffer in the name of ugliness? I guess that's a fashionista's worst nightmare.

Posted by: Scarpediem | June 28, 2006 5:30 PM

Nay, I am short, and anything with those kinds of straps cut my already short frame down. Not to mention, I honestly can't think of a thing to wear them with that is already in my closet.

Posted by: Joanna | June 28, 2006 5:33 PM

maybe if I was a hooker! Nay nay nay!

Posted by: Kristina | June 28, 2006 5:43 PM

Nay! Can I say that it reminds me of the color of baby poopie? Too shiny and yes hooker shoes.

Posted by: Lilie | June 28, 2006 5:50 PM

Nay. Very ugly.

Posted by: Mindy | June 28, 2006 5:57 PM

Nay. I think if they were in a different color and wrn't so patent-tacky shiny, they would look a hol lot nicer. This is a very Mariah Carey (great voice, bad clothes) shoe.

Posted by: Emily | June 28, 2006 6:22 PM

Posted by: Emily | June 28, 2006 6:22 PM

Nay. Beige and patent should never, ever meet.

Posted by: Iris | June 28, 2006 6:31 PM

Nay. I kind of like the shape of the bottom part of this shoe but: there are too many straps and the combination of patent and - oooh - that TERRIBLE colour just makes it all wrong. What IS that colour? Is it ecru?

Posted by: Arnez | June 28, 2006 6:42 PM

I am the first YAY! These would be so Safari-Chic with khaki short-shorts =]

Posted by: Lauren | June 28, 2006 7:00 PM

Yay. I love these! Tell me at once who makes them? I would love wearing them with a dress, long wide leg trousers, just about anything. YUM!

Posted by: Tori | June 28, 2006 7:38 PM

Nay, I say nay those are really ugly.

Posted by: tiffany | June 28, 2006 7:56 PM

Nay. I don't like the patent - it makes the straps look cheap.

Seriously it's super hard to write using your rules!

Posted by: Princess Sarah | June 28, 2006 8:18 PM

I love everything about these shoes except that they're made of patent leather.....that's about it.

Posted by: Melissa | June 28, 2006 8:23 PM

Nay. Those have got to be the cheapest shoes I've seen. Are you sure that this shoe isn't distributed by 'Mature' Hookers Inc.?

Posted by: Paula | June 28, 2006 8:27 PM

Nay. Nay. Nay. Ugly color, ugly style and the patent leather is just adding insult to injury.

Posted by: sbanks | June 28, 2006 8:28 PM

Nay, they are too tacky for me, and I generally like patent. The heel looks painful, the color is too washed-out for my taste, they just look dated.

Posted by: iheartpink | June 28, 2006 8:29 PM

Nay. I don't think they are the worst shoes I've ever seen, but they are odd-looking and the heel is really too high - yes there is such a thing.

I'm waiting for you to post that one shoe where I get all excited and must buy it immediately. Hasn't happened lately.

Posted by: rose | June 28, 2006 8:42 PM

Nay, the whole patent leather deal and the color is wrong. These shoes, in my opinion, will look great in brown calf skin leather.

Posted by: Joyce | June 28, 2006 8:49 PM

Nay! These look like cheap hooker shoes. I know that similie has been used before in the comments here, but I simply can't think of any other way to describe them, because they are so cheap/tacky looking. What is going on with the sole? Under the heel the sole looks like a smoky lucite color. That is horrid! The shoes look like bondage lite - for the mistress that hates black but wants to work it.

Posted by: Shuzluva | June 28, 2006 9:32 PM

Nay. I don't like the shinyness of the patent, I don't like the colour, and I don't like how high they are. I think they would actually cripple me after about 2 minutes.

Posted by: Jenni | June 28, 2006 10:00 PM

Nay. They look plastic, are an unattractive shape and color, and I can't imagine anything that they would actually look good with.

Posted by: Amanda | June 28, 2006 10:00 PM

Nay. Beige patent is bad, and I don't like the way the closed heel looks with the open straps up front. Plus, I'd break my neck. If the heel were two inches lower, it was in a more rugged leather, and had a cap toe, well maybe.

Posted by: oliviacw | June 28, 2006 10:12 PM

That is a resounding nay. I wouldn't say they look like a cheap hooker's shoes. I'd say more a blow up doll, tho of course it would go pop with them there heels.

Posted by: Linda | June 28, 2006 10:29 PM

Yay, I would love them if they came in any other colour but brown - black would be great. That look almost Vivienne Westwood inspired, something from the old punk days. I'd never wear them though, I can't wear heels that high!

Love Alicia's comment (third from top)!

Posted by: clashcityrockerkat | June 28, 2006 10:31 PM

NAY! I don't know what they were thinking when they made these shoes. I mean, just look at them. They look like something Maria Carey would wear. That in itself says it all.

The only thing they have going for them is the color. Even the material is gross.

Posted by: The Housewife | June 28, 2006 10:46 PM

I was thinking yay, then maybe, and finally, no.
The colour would be nice if it wasn't patent, and patent would be nice if it wasn't that horrible shade of beige.

Posted by: missc | June 28, 2006 11:48 PM

If I were Mariah Carey, I would say Yay. So NAY it is!

Posted by: Heidi | June 29, 2006 2:27 AM

Nay. They're totally un-Feng Shui. No natural flow in the design. And the color/material combination is just bad!

Posted by: Christian | June 29, 2006 6:57 AM

Nay. They're way too shiny and look horribly uncomfortable!

Posted by: Y. | June 29, 2006 7:37 AM

Nay. They make me feel claustrophobic, like my feet would be in a strappy patent cage.

I do like Mariah Carey though ... sorry

Posted by: ANNA HAYMAN | June 29, 2006 8:40 AM

I'm afraid I have to go with the flow and commit these shoes to the barren wasteland of Nay-ness. It's not the colour/patent combination, it's the heel shape that leaves my boat totally un-floated. It looks like "High Heels for Remedials" - too straight and set back on the shoe. If it was clasically curved-in stiletto, the shoes wouldn't look half so clunky and ugly. I've said it before, everyone needs a pair of hooker shoes, but these are not they!
(Sorry, if I could have used tons of exclamation marks, I wouldn't have used half the number of words)

Posted by: Sista Lou | June 29, 2006 10:07 AM

Nay - they are shiny and gross.

Posted by: Camilla C | June 29, 2006 10:48 AM

You did this on purpose, didn't you? They're really wful, patent, sandals, and ridiculously high heels, that spells a NAY on the spot!
(I followed the rules: don't mention fake Louboutins ever again please!)

Posted by: marta | June 29, 2006 12:28 PM

Big YAY! I think if worn with the right outfit, they could make it. I think the fact that they are nude also combats the heel, s&m style straps and patent. Plus they remind me a bit of the YSL shoes that are coming out for this fall.

Posted by: meg | June 29, 2006 3:27 PM

Nay. They aren't terrible, however, they lack, well, _anything_ that makes me want to buy them. They are shiny. And brown. And not exciting.

Posted by: Cait | June 29, 2006 3:38 PM

Mrs. "Bubba" may wear these on a night out at the only country bar in town.... however, I think they just need to be shot! CMD Florida

Posted by: CMD | June 29, 2006 4:30 PM

Nay nay and thrice nay to these (and I love hearing what your mum has to say about the shoes Ms Shoewawa! (there - that's my one ! - oh no that's 2!

Posted by: Deb | June 29, 2006 5:24 PM

Nay! I think they look cheap that is all I can think to say. Cheap, cheap, CHEAP!

Posted by: Rebecca | June 29, 2006 6:55 PM

YAY. I think they are beautiful (would look good with a floaty little dress- I love a bit of contrast), and could really tart up a nice tweed-y outfit for the autumn. I'm thinking pencil skirt, little jacket, YUM!

Posted by: amy b. | June 30, 2006 2:21 PM

The patent makes them look cheap, if not for this i would say yay

Posted by: syreeta | June 30, 2006 5:19 PM

YAY, ladies this are sooo orginal! Better than copycat polka dot shoes or stripes that EVEYONE has been wearing. However you would have to be the ultimate fashionista to pull these off!

Posted by: Jane | June 30, 2006 10:00 PM

Ho-hum. These shoes do absolutely nothing for me. NAY!

Posted by: Cherry | July 1, 2006 6:07 AM

Nasty! Since when was this a good colour for anything other than old people's cardigans? The heel is ok, but it doesn't really suit the rest of the shoe and the straps remind me of those pretend-shoes that people wear over their plaster when they've broken their foot. Just NO.

Posted by: sminke | July 1, 2006 10:19 PM

these shoes are not very nice at all. :(
they are tacky and the colour is more poop than chic...

Nay.

Posted by: little sonfica | July 2, 2006 3:25 PM

Nay! They remind me of a 1940's movie fantasy/dance number where the dowdy, tweed-wearing, bun-coiffed secretary eventually morphs into a slutty version of herself!

Posted by: robertajune | July 2, 2006 5:03 PM

Nay. As stated above by various others the colour and the texture is not that attractive in a shoe. (probably not anywhere actually). Personally I'm not big on patent lether, it can work if it's in black but only if the straps are smaller and fewer. It don't really like the sole either, especially not where it meets the heel, it looks like really old wood.

Posted by: SthlmButterfly | July 3, 2006 4:08 PM

Yay! My wife loves these shoes. I love 'em too. It takes guts to wear them, and when you can pull it off...they look gorgeous.

Posted by: Freddy | July 3, 2006 8:21 PM

Never. Not in this lifetime. Absolutely not. Horribly hooker type. Though I can imagien Mariah "S"Carey wearing them. Or Parasite Hilton. Suit them well too.

Posted by: Suneet | July 4, 2006 1:07 PM

Nnno. Khaki-colored patent leather? Bizarre choice. And the shape is over-the-top without being original.

Posted by: K | July 5, 2006 4:17 PM

yay with crop jeans...a hot look
