Yay or Nay Wednesday

YngucciYou knew this was coming. Since it's boot week you're voting on a boot this time around...a Gucci boot to be precise. As you can see there's no way in hell I could keep the designer of this one a secret, but that's exactly why I want your votes. For some reason a logo on a classic pair of boots seems much more bearable than a naff looking handbag, but would you go for such an obvious look? Gucci's 85th Anniversary boots - Yay or Nay and why?

Last week's controversial brogue Mary Janes were £25 from Freemans.

Nay to the nth degree - logo items are so...so....branded.

Nice brass plate....

What's the point?

Ugly.

Yuck.

I'm actually going to go with yay (surprisingly)! It looks like a lovely riding boot and eventhough I really hate lables being emblazoned across everything, I really don't mind it on these shoes.

Posted by: CJ | August 23, 2006 3:35 PM

I would say yay, except for that anniversary logo - ew, come on! That's gross. Nayyyyy. I really like the anniversary handbag though.

Posted by: Andrea | August 23, 2006 3:37 PM

Nay. It looks like it can't decide whether it wants to be a riding boot or a cowboy boot.

Posted by: Amanda | August 23, 2006 3:57 PM

Nay, blah I can't stand logos, it looks like a walking advertisement. I like the shape and the color but I hate the branding.

Posted by: iheartpink | August 23, 2006 4:18 PM

Oh gak! No way. Aside from the horrible...commemorative plaque is really the only way to describe it, there's something not right that I can't quite put my finger on.

Posted by: Elizabeth | August 23, 2006 4:21 PM

Nay. They are too serious. There's no sense of fun or flirtiness about them.

Posted by: Melanie | August 23, 2006 4:53 PM

I think these might be a yay. Not a big one, for the plaque has to go. I do like the way they incorporated the logo without it reaching out and slapping you. Embossing the leather was the right answer.

Posted by: sbanks | August 23, 2006 5:05 PM

Nay.

The label tattooed across the boot seem tacky, and as for the anniversary logo....EURGH.

Posted by: TuttiTut | August 23, 2006 5:41 PM

Nay. I've made it a point to try never to buy anything with a companie's logo, or a designer's name on it. I don't care if it's a $15 t-shirt or a $1050 pair of boots. If a company wants me to advertise for them, they can pay me. The boots aren't anything special anyway.

Posted by: Mindy | August 23, 2006 6:11 PM

Good lord! They are a definite nay! The plaque bit looks so tacky and cheap, other than that...they are just plain boring! Certainly won't be worth the price tag. Although I have to admit, they look potentially very comfortable.

Posted by: Aimee | August 23, 2006 6:56 PM

I'm right there with Mindy. Are they biker's boots, riding boots or just not interesting boots?

Posted by: Katy | August 23, 2006 6:59 PM

Nay - like the others, I'm averse to logos. I love boots, but when I think about what I would actually put on to go with these, I come up empty.

Posted by: Julia | August 23, 2006 7:00 PM

As if the embossed logo down the leather shaft of the boot wasn't pretentious enough, the hideous anniversary emblem made me want to upchuck!!! Hands down, an emphatic naaaaaay.

Posted by: Jackie | August 23, 2006 7:19 PM

Yay! I like them. I'm not to keen on having logos all over items, but as Sharmin said, they do it pretty subtely. :D

Posted by: Gee | August 23, 2006 7:29 PM

Nay, they're fine up as far as the ankle. After that, just nasty.

Posted by: Jenni | August 23, 2006 7:29 PM

Nay. Bad, bad logo ruins an otherwise acceptable (but not really interesting) boot.

Posted by: Chaser | August 23, 2006 7:49 PM

Nay - they look like my riding boots.

Posted by: Camilla C | August 23, 2006 11:30 PM

Nay, but I might wear them if they gave them to me free. I won't pay to be thier billboard. Looks a lot like a riding boot, It should be a little more sexy with a heel.

Posted by: Happy | August 24, 2006 2:27 AM

Nay for the in-general ho-hum-ness. Too many YAYs out there to go this route! (As far as the logo, next year they will be SO last year! Unless you store them like a beanie baby freak to sell on ebay when they're antiques)!

Posted by: Heidi | August 24, 2006 3:04 AM

Hell Nay! Might as well buy a pair of 5 quid wellies and paint a logo on. I'd never pay Gucci prices for the kind of boots fit for a muddy pop festival.

Posted by: Arnez | August 24, 2006 2:03 PM

Beautifully Tacky in a Delicious sort of Way, i like them and I would rock the heck out of them, but on the otherhand Im a logo lover..

Posted by: Ayokomora | August 24, 2006 6:15 PM

NAY NAY NAY. Ugh! These are horrible. I don't mind the embossed logo, but the boot itself is blah and to echo many other posters, that metal "85th anniversary plaque" looks like something they bought at the Hallmark store and glued on. Eugh.

Posted by: Rachel Rauch | August 26, 2006 4:07 AM

NAY!!! Just plain UGLY.

Posted by: Cherry | August 27, 2006 5:46 PM

Oh my god, Nay! Nay!

They look like someone skinned a chesterfield and tacked on an overpriced birthday cake plaque. The Gucci logo print looks like housedress quilting.

The only way I can see these as part of an outfit is on a rich blond tween on a horse, with a stable boy to muck out its stall so she doesn't get her guccis covered in... well, let's just say that kind of person makes my knuckles itch a bit.

Posted by: Nicole | August 28, 2006 3:19 AM

Nay ... I don't like the branding at all!

Posted by: Jen | September 4, 2006 8:52 PM

No way
