Yay or Nay Wednesday

Tartanyn There was a rundown of the best checked / plaid dresses on Catwalk Queen yesterday, which inspired this week's Yay or Nay choice. I've actually seen these shoes in person and was strangely drawn to them (that seems to be happening a lot lately) so I wanted to know your opinion. It's hard to tell how the lacing looks in a picture, but use your imagination and cast your votes - Yay or Nay and why?

Nay, too much tartan for me

Posted by: Camilla C | September 27, 2006 5:05 PM

Nay, and I like plaid. The weird strings kill it for me, and I'm not crazy about the shape, either. The shape, the straps and the plaid together does not compute.

Nay.

Posted by: Mindy | September 27, 2006 5:24 PM

Ooooo, Nay.
I normally like tartan, but this is the "wrong" tartan. It reminds me of granny slippers and stuffed toy Nessies. and the toe-cap thing is odd, and the lacing seems pointless, it goes around the edge of the shoe and not a nice cross-over style. Hmm, generally bad show all round!

YAAY!

i kinda like them! I dunno why though.

I am gonna have to say YAY! I think with the write outfit someone could pull them off, as long as they dont lace them too far up the leg.

Posted by: chrissie | September 27, 2006 6:16 PM

For the first time in ages....YAY! Great with a flared tartan mini n black hose.

Posted by: Katy | September 27, 2006 6:30 PM

Nay. Not a fan of tartan anyway, but I really don't like whatever it is the laces are doing either.

Posted by: Amber | September 27, 2006 6:52 PM

Nay. The tartan just doesn't do it for me.

Posted by: TuttiTut | September 27, 2006 6:53 PM

Yay. It's a fun, over-the-top holiday shoe. Without the laces, the shoe would be too staid. Just as with animal prints, however, one patterned item is enough; pairing these with a tartan skirt would be too much. I could see these with an A-line black skirt with a lace-edged tulle underskirt, a pale champagne wrap-around blouse, and big, fabulously fake red rhinestone jewelry. Not my style, but someone flamboyant could pull it off at a holiday party.

Yay - I love them - very Vivienne Westwood - great with black skirt and tights - probably would only wear them for one winter though!

Posted by: Deb | September 27, 2006 7:52 PM

Oh no, I have to say nay because I can't imagine what to wear with them, and the heel's a bit too thick. I love the round toe-ness and the tartan though.

Posted by: Arnez | September 27, 2006 7:57 PM

Yay I think :D They look like fun and it would spruce up a dull outfit

Posted by: Gee | September 27, 2006 8:55 PM

NAY! NAY! NAY!
NAY! a million times over!

Posted by: jessi | September 27, 2006 10:04 PM

I'm not happy with the lacing. If they didn't have that, these could be cute with black dress or a red sweaterdres and those dark dark dark black tights. But the laces don't work for that. So a reluctant nay on an otherwise kind of likeable shoe.

Posted by: Chaser | September 27, 2006 10:09 PM

At first I was leaning toward nay, but with you guys putting them together with the tights and the tulle etc, I think they would be cute! YAY with black tights.

Posted by: Happy | September 27, 2006 11:31 PM

NAY; I can't believe anyone thinks that feet are a good thing to turn plaid!

Posted by: Style Graduate | September 28, 2006 1:07 AM

Oh no. Ugh. NAY. Please, I've seen shoes just like this being sold in "alternative" shops in Camden. Only tragic goth-girls and (sorry to say it) streetwalkers could ever seriously contemplate these. These aren't fun, they're dirty. And not in a good way.

Posted by: Georgie | September 28, 2006 2:06 AM

Nay!

The lacing is a bit much. I'm all for plaid when done tastefully. However, um...they just turn my stomach, sorry!

NAY! honestly, these should be in ugly shoe of the week!!! YEECH

Posted by: laura | September 28, 2006 5:13 AM

NAY. If they were flats, then they might be kinda cute. But as spikey heels? No way.

Posted by: oliviacw | September 28, 2006 5:36 AM

Nay. I don't mind the pattern, but I don't like the laces or the shape of them.

Posted by: Chloabelle | September 28, 2006 10:58 AM

Yay! Actually I love these shoes, but in green or grey on the website (Which I wont name!!) I hate the tartan ones, but honestly in the other colours, Fantastic!! So why havent i got them yet? Cos postage is £12 to northern Ireland!! Talk about rip off!

Posted by: Emma | September 28, 2006 12:07 PM

I'm a plaid queen, but these are a nay for me. Maybe if they were flats and definitely without the strings, too.

Posted by: Heidi | September 28, 2006 3:41 PM

NAY,the shape is just all wrong. If your looking for lovely tartan shoes, office have a beautiful pair as part of their interbow range.I just bought myself a pair :)

Posted by: Nicola | September 28, 2006 6:03 PM

Nay.

Because tartan should be recognized proudly on a foot, and not underminded by some confusing criss-cross pattern wrapped around the arch of the wearer. I never liked the confusion of ballet with tartan, anyway..

Posted by: meep | September 28, 2006 7:15 PM

Nay.

I like the lacing and I somewhat like the tartan (though I think tartan would look less tartish in a lower heel) but definitely don't like lacing and tartan together.

Posted by: rose | September 28, 2006 7:34 PM

Nay - I quite like the fabric but the lacing and the toe detail is just too much.

Posted by: Jenni | September 29, 2006 2:43 PM

If only my mother hadn't gotten rid of my highschool uniform. These would be a perfect accompaniment. And what with Halloween coming up...darnit!
