Yay or Nay Wednesday

Ynan After spotting a girl trying these on over the weekend, I made a note to make them this week's Yay or Nay, because they really strike me as the marmite of footwear. You'll either love them in all their trashy fabulousness, or you'll wonder how anyone can wear them without looking like a hooker. Animal print is tricky at the best of times but add red heels and you're asking for trouble. Still, I can't help but want to give them a go with a pencil skirt and a dash of Dita Von Teese-esque attitude. What about you...Yay or Nay and Why?

Last week's shoes were from Sam Edelmen at Victoria's Secret. And on't forget to vote at Trashionista, Bridalwave, Corrie Blog, Catwalk Queen, Kiss and Makeup, The Bag Lady and Shiny Shiny too!

1) NO, you can't wear these red/animal things without looking like a night lady.
2) Dita Von Teese is a burlesque lady. Sure you wanna look her in your normal life? You end up looking like in point 1).
3) So trashy that even Elton John would love them.

So, a huge Nay....

I think these are cute, so yay! but, these have the same basic shape as the two previous pairs of shoes posted on this blog, so how could they be offensive? there's more to shoe design than the surface materials ;)

YAY! I think they are cute... Both red and animal print are hot this season, and I think these shoes combine them both tastefully! Cant you see it with a black pencil skirt, chunky red leather belt and white oxford? OR even with Jeans where they would only peep out. Definite fan...

Posted by: Rubaby | October 18, 2006 3:23 PM

I wasn't exactly talking about Dita's on-stage wardrobe, Sandra! She looks amazing in real life when she's covered up in couture.

Posted by: Ms Shoewawa | October 18, 2006 3:39 PM

YAY! I love these - they're the kind of shoes you could wear with any old jeans and a sweater and they'd totally make the outfit.

Posted by: Amber | October 18, 2006 3:40 PM

I think I would like them with certain outfits...so,yay...i think. :)

Posted by: Stephanie | October 18, 2006 3:42 PM

Definite yay from me! I was quite averse to animal print until I saw a fab pair of flats in New Look's teen department (hot pink trim as opposed to boring black on the "grown up" version and £10 cheaper!!) but they make my feet happy! These would make my feet feel happy AND sexy which can only be a good thing!

Posted by: Selina | October 18, 2006 4:00 PM

It's not just the print with the red, it's how chunky the front looks with the stilletto heel.
So nay.
Nay nay nay nay nay.
...
Nay.

Have I made my point clear?

Posted by: cait | October 18, 2006 4:10 PM

nay! way too much going on. can't we pick one trend per pair of shoes and stick with it?

Posted by: aja | October 18, 2006 4:14 PM

Gosh i love them. The again leopard print is my favourite print of all time. I hate how it is so in fashion!

Posted by: Claire | October 18, 2006 4:26 PM

i mean then again.

Posted by: Claire | October 18, 2006 4:27 PM

First pair of animal print shoes I've considered buying. Yay. I'm just trying to find a store near me now =P

Posted by: Julia | October 18, 2006 4:35 PM

Yay - but lets all listen to William (askagayman) and just have one signature piece in animal print

Posted by: Deb | October 18, 2006 5:10 PM

YAY- i love love love them...i want them. no i need them. NOW!

Posted by: nat | October 18, 2006 5:14 PM

Yay!! I love the leopard print with the red and the slingback and the sexy heel. Very vampy! I would wear these with a tight red or black skirt and a tight sweater-top.

Posted by: JR | October 18, 2006 5:25 PM

Hesitant YAY.

The 'skank factor' of these shoes is completely dependant upon the outfit with which it would be paired.

I say with a demure outfit, they could be like a party on your feet. Paired with black skinnies, or a black pencil skirt with a high-neck blouse they could look fab.

Pair them with a jean skirt and Im running for my life.

You'd have to be careful with these babies.

not normally a lover of all things animal printnor the slingback varieties. these shoes actually really appeal to me. I love the cute round toe with bow and the fact that the shoe is quite low cut also adds a nice detail.

YAY

Wish the whole animal print thing would go away. Nay.

Posted by: Mindy | October 18, 2006 6:32 PM

Oh, I've seen these. No one could wear these in a serious I'm-so-hot manner (though I haven't been to Staten Island lately, so maybe there.) It would have to be kind of an ironic aren't-my-shoes-too-funny thing. And then I think they work. Definitely wouldn't try to wear them with anything matchy matchy. So, surprisingly, I vote

YEA

Yay - love them. I think Dita Von Teese is hot! I'd wear these with black trousers and a black short sleeve polo neck, anything else would be risky.

Posted by: Camilla C | October 18, 2006 7:09 PM

P.S. I agree with you about Dita Von Teese - she always looks fabulous - but I'm not sure she'd wear these!

Posted by: rose | October 18, 2006 7:46 PM

Yay. I LOVE leopard and platforms. I might pull the bow off though. Deffo to be worn with a simple black outfit. These shoes rock.

Posted by: Arnez | October 18, 2006 7:55 PM

I know that Dita looks faboulous when wearing couture, but hey, let's face it - she's a star, she can get away with anything. For normal gals, the risk is to look just like a hooker.

Posted by: Sandra | October 18, 2006 8:26 PM

nay, b/c these shoes are way too round in the front. that itself makes it look really cheap; besides that stupid bow.

Posted by: erica | October 18, 2006 9:02 PM

Catwalkqueen is talking about menswear. These are the shoes I would wear with a tailored man's suit in camel. YAY!

Posted by: Jael | October 18, 2006 9:49 PM

yey love them, nice shape and the red with the print is a cool twist.

Posted by: A | October 18, 2006 10:20 PM

Yuck. I hate little wirey bows on the toes of shoes. Leopard print + red = trashy.

Posted by: Miranda | October 19, 2006 12:56 AM

I don't mind the red or the leopard print particularly, but I think this shape is a little unbalanced. I know it's just the latest thing to have fat round platforms, but the tiny ankle sling and spiky heels give them a distinctly minnie-mouse slash platinum-blond-divorcee feel.

Unless you're a full-time rockabilly chick, and are going to wear these with black everything and a red/leopard headband, I say NAY. You're just going to look overdressed and probably break an ankle.

Posted by: Nicole | October 19, 2006 8:06 AM

Yay I love them..more than likely remove the bow as it does nothing for the shoe. I guess I'm one of those ladies that hangs around Elton John's trash at night!
With a tight red skirt and black sweater top...realy vampy. Yay

Posted by: Katy | October 19, 2006 8:26 AM

A big nay for me wearing them, and then again for the majority of the population. But I think there is a small band of women who could carry these off. Emphasis on the small though.

Posted by: Jenni | October 19, 2006 11:25 AM

Love, love, love them! How fantastic! Saw some great leopard print pumps with a red bow on the other day, they were great too. HMMMMM.

Posted by: Johanna | October 19, 2006 12:01 PM

i love them, does anyone know where they're from?

Posted by: amelia | October 19, 2006 12:55 PM

shop will be revealed next week, or you can email me if you're desperate. I will say now they're from a UK shop that only ships around the UK.

Posted by: Ms Shoewawa | October 19, 2006 1:08 PM

Yay - I think they are very foxy ...with the right pair of jeans and a cute top they would be perfec...

Posted by: Lynn | October 19, 2006 1:53 PM

Yay! Love red, love animal print and would probably wear them with all black anyway... and I LOOOOOOVE Dita Von Teese xx

Posted by: DIANE SHIPLEY | October 19, 2006 5:01 PM

Dang those are cute. I like 'em. Yay. That little bow in the front somehow works for me. Hmmm.

Posted by: Chaser | October 20, 2006 3:54 AM

Yay from me, I love these, I saw them online and thought they were so cute. Love the colour, print and style, very Christina Aguilera (and I'm not talking about the leather chaps phase!)

Posted by: Gemma | October 20, 2006 11:53 AM

total YAY!
how yummy!

Posted by: amanda | October 20, 2006 1:31 PM

Nay. Let's leave the excessive style to Nicole Richie and Mary Kate Olsen please.

Posted by: Priyanka | October 20, 2006 3:08 PM

Nay!! Despite the fact that I don't like animal print and can't wait for this horrible horrible trend to leave, they're chunky, and the red makes them look cheap. Nevermind Dita, I'm thinking Christina Aguilera, and yes I know she's smartened up and looks good now, but I still shudder every time I see her leopard accessories... NAY!!
