Top Five: Side-bow Shoes

Bows are everywhere, this we know. But a slightly different trend is really taking hold - the side-positioned bow. Where a toe-bow can be cutesy, the side bow is a bit more elegant, still fun and a bit frivolous if it's a big bow, but sometimes gives the shoe a sleeker line.
This shoe I love! At first I thought it was printed, but no, the pattern is actually lace. I love that the large pattern nods to the lace-covered trend without that 'boudoir' feel that makes me shy away from a more traditional lace-covered shoe. They're by Estelle Yomeda and are on sale for $144, reduced from $204.

Perhaps classic black with a bit of sparkle is more your thing? ASOS are offering this sexy high court in their sale at just £10, down from £30. The black fabric shoe is finished off with a bow embellished with a liberal sprinkling of diamante. They're not quite at the level of the stunning Oscar de la Renta numbers posted earlier this week, but quite elegant for the price. This shoe is also available in gold or silver metallic, but they have a bit too much of the tack-factor for my liking.

These retro mid-heeled round-toed 'Cane' courts might be a bit boring without the addition of the perky side bow, which makes them rather cute. They are leather and a classic style, but in these days of January sales is it just me who feels that £65 is a little much to pay? I guess you really have to try them on to see if you can feel the reason for the extra cash.

These shoes make me rather want to work in an office where pointy low-heeled courts and pencil skirts are the order of the day. They're a sweet, simple style with a subtle bow, and in addition to the attractive price (£25), how could you resist a shoe called 'Bananarama'? Available from Barratts in red and black.

Last, something a bit more quirky. Fans of Irregular Choice may like this 'Giselle' detailed court from Minette with its ruffles, gathering, bow and lightly croc-embossed leather. As well as black, it's available in this very pretty pale greeny-blue is is currently available at a fantastic discount: just £25.50, down from £85. At that price, why choose plain and boring?!
