Yay or Nay Wednesday

yaynay79.jpgIt's not often that a shoe draws a tie, but last week's offering - 'Jene' by Betsey Johnson - had the Yays and Nays face-to-face, glaring rather ominously at one another! If you were one of the girls declaring their endless love for the style, they're also available in a ballet flat called Juniper!

For those in the know, this week's offering is a United Nude design (it's a little hard to mask it!). Their aesthetic, but functional designs have been receiving some acclaim of late; but we'd like to know... do you think they're futuristic fabulous or freakish and foul? Yay or Nay and why?

This..boy, I think I'd like to own these shoes so that I could take them out and admire the beautiful violet footbed and the shiny shiny parts and then maybe try them on in front of the mirror before carefully putting them away. I'd probably save them for ten years or so and then wear them once when I was giving a party.

I'm not sure if that's a yay or a nay.

Nay. These are stunning and attractive, but I can't imagine they're very practical or kind to your footsies.

Yay for an amazing collector's item to sit on a shelf or on display somewhere, but nay for my feety weety.

Yay!!

these shoes are def a talking point, and if they are anything like the eamz pump, then super comfy too. I love them in silver, and the purple footbed is so plush! i would worry about creasing the silver leather, but that would be it. LOVE THEM!!!

Absolutely Yay! I love them! As far as I know the whole point of UN designs is that, although they look odd ,they are actually supposed to be like any ordinary pair of high heels to walk in. I never owned a pair, so cannot vouch for that, but once I wear the above pair in, I'll let you know :)

Yay Yay YAY!! I absolutely, positively ADORE these! Maybe it's because I get bored easily with the plain-jane styles designed for the faint-of-heart, lowest-common-denominator crowd - I can barely stay awake but for the yawning! - but these are RIGHT up my alley with their unique, eye-catching design. Not to mention I am a HUGE fan of Eames-era atomic designs (yes, I'm trapped in the past! LOL). Anyhoo, I would KILL to own a pair of each colour - the silver/purple and the black patent - but alas, I cannot even afford one pair. :(
YAY nontheless!

Yay, they're pleasing to look at as a design piece, though I personally don't like the heel. They win for the lovely shiny silvery bits, and of course the purpley bit too. Ah, a poetic description or what?

It would make a great modern-style lamp. As a shoe? I can't see wearing them. Maybe if I were a rock star....

These are the most hideous shoes I have ever seen in my life. They look like something that was constructed by a three year old playing with broken parts because their parents are too poor to afford Lego toys. The heel looks like it came off a piece of a cheap metal table at a trailer trash yard sale. The purple looks like it was taken from a pair of Elvis' curtains in 1968. They look like tacky Studio 54 rejects.

In case it wasn't apparent, this is a very hearty and emphatic NAY!

Yay! I adore unusual shoes and these certainly qualify. They also remind me of some fetish shoes made from stainless steel that I've seen around. Pity that I can't afford a pair and that even if I could they don't come in my size.

Yay!! I love these shoes! I would try to wear them - although I don't know how my feet would like that. I do love the unusual!

Yay! These shoes are like some incredibly sexy bit of office furniture. Admittedly, I don't know if I could walk in them, but that's never stopped me before.

Posted by: pinup | May 2, 2007 9:24 PM

Hmm... They're definitely a conversation peice, but I would have to say nay, sorry.

Posted by: Katie | May 2, 2007 9:46 PM

They are very interesting. If I didn't hate the futuristic look, they'd be a yay. Since I hate that look, Nay.

Posted by: Jael | May 2, 2007 11:07 PM

Yay. YAY! I absolutely love United Nude. They're art more than just a pair of shoes. I don't personally think I could pull them off (or even afford them) in my student lifestyle. But these are showstoppers and should be appreciated for that. Yay all around!

ABSOLUTE YAY! love them love them love them. i was looking at some of the other UN shoes with this crazy chair heel and at first i was like 'huh?' but now i think they are a spectacular and unique work of art to make your feet look and feel devine. and what is a perfect shoe, if not that?

Posted by: Shahedah | May 3, 2007 11:52 AM

Yay! I love the creative heels and contrast between the hard silver and soft purple!

Posted by: Emi | May 4, 2007 4:02 AM

Yay, but that may be because I love strange designs for shoes. I'm a 3-D artist and I see a lot of shoes as art. Plus, strange shoes can REALLY make an outfit, or spice up something simple like jeans, à la Carrie Bradshaw.

Nay-- so incredibly hideous. What sort of ensemble would these go with? They'd be fine in a glass case, not on feet. Ugh!

Posted by: beth | May 6, 2007 5:18 AM

Nay. They look like they would be extremely uncomfortable and perhaps difficult to walk in. Besides I think they're kinda ugly.
