Shoes in focus: Mary Janes

You may remember a few weeks ago that I wrote a long (slightly obsessive) post about Miu MIu's blue Mary-Jane heels. Well while it has finally become clear that if I to eat next month I won't be buying them just yet, I've been searching out Mary Jane style shoes which are bigger, better and...er...cheaper!
If your designer shoe cravings are further teased by the above picture of Christian Louboutin's green peep-toe Mary-Janes, they're available here - and guess what? They're reduced!
The 'Mary Jane' is an American term for strap shoes with typically low heels, round toes and a buckled strap across the instep. Traditionally made from black patent leather, nowadays they're available in a huge range of colours - such as my gorgeous blue ones. Currently, Mary Janes tend to involve platforms and chunky heels with big or double straps and (praise be) the high street is coming up a few fabulous versions too!
Topshop have come up trumps with some fab Mary-Jane style heels recently - and the fact that these ones are blue also certainly doesn't hurt! These round-toe mid heel cobalt blue Mary Janes are just £55 and I really think would work right through winter too with a pair of opaque tights for quirky glamour.

Next up, for Mary Janes which are a little less loud, how about these Dune 'Bangle' Mary-Jane style wedges? A much easier way to gently try out the trend and decide what you think for yourself, these wedges are £60 in tan, and are leather with unusual thread detailing. Having said that, if it is statement pieces you want, head over to Shellys for a crazy pair of 'Intrigue' metallic gold patent Mary-Janes but hurry if you're interested as they're reduced to £50 and thus are selling out in most sizes fast!
For my final pair, I've chosen some that are rather controversial but that I actually do quite like. I would describe them as Mary Jane-esque - I added the 'esque' because they actually aren't officially Mary Janes but rather are Faith's new 'Sera' ankle boots. Ok so they aren't too similar to the traditional style, but I like to think of them as Mary Janes updated! Featuring contrast tan strap, dark green and black leather they're £60 and are available in sizes 3-8. I haven't got as far as trying to figure out what on earth I'd wear them with - any ideas, ladies?
