Best of the bunch: shoe books!
Ladies, as you know I love all things shoe-based, not just the footwear itself! Over the past few weeks I and Nadine have spotted some fun shoe-based accessories and while looking for a gift for a friend of mine last night (a fellow shoe-lover - aren't they all?!), I noticed just how many shoe-based books there are around at the moment. Perfect as presents for others, as coffee table reading or just as a gift to yourself - an idea which, as it happens, I'm a huge fan of - they are super, and educational, actually!

It outlines different types of shoes, gives historical information and best of all, features over 500 pages fo absolutely jaw-dropping photographs. Definitely an easy way to waste a few hours!
If you're a fan of psychological books and films, then this is the shoe version (although obviously it's slightly more fluffy than a thriller). Meghan Cleary's The Perfect Fit: What Your Shoes Say About You will cost you £6.99 and talks, surprisingly, about what a woman's shoe taste says about her. Or to be more specific, her clothes, career and even ideal partner! For example, as a T-strap obsessive myself, I have a 'natural gustiness and Betty Boop-like cuteness'. Definitely not one to be taken too seriously, and ever so slightly stereotypical, this is definitely in the gift for a friend category, or even - a gift for a daughter's friend, to be honest! To be brutally honest, although I like the idea I wouldn't massively recommend the book so perhaps it's more of a flick-through-in-the-shop-but-don't-buy type book (not that I ever do that, of course)!
Next up is Shoes: What Every Woman Should Know by Stephanie Pedersen. It's US$11.04 and one reviewer on Amazon says that if you own more than two pairs of shoes, you'll love it. I'd be pretty surprised if any of you didn't own far, far more pairs that, so you all should be on to a winner here! These is certainly the historical selection, tracing shoe styles from 8000BC to the 21st century, and fascinatingly, the gradual change from shoe comfort to shoe couture.
If you love Manolo Blahniks as much as Carrie Bradshaw, then Manolo Blahnik Drawings (with an introduction by Anna Wintour) at £16.95 may be perfect! The book contains over 100 drawings Blahnik himself, done at the outset of the design process, and they themselves are worth huge amounts at charity auctions. The book also includes words by celebrity admirers, a photographs of the great man working and finally Blahnik's own photographs of family, friends and inspiration!
So ladies, what do you think - are you tempted?

I have owned and enjoyed the Linda O'Keefe book for a long time and I recently bought "Shoes a history from sandals to sneakers" by Giorgio Riello and Peter McNeil and "Shoes the complete sourcebook" by John Peacock. The picture on the front of the first book made me buy the book - Vivienne Westwood platforms! I do like to read about the history of shoes and see some great pictures!
