So it's been longer than I'd care to recall since I've walked the halls of high school, but it definitely seems like the Teen Vogue back to school fashion spread is following in the footsteps of its elitist, aspirational, fantasy-world-only big sister. I like Teen Vogue for its offbeat, quirky fashions and for taking more chances and being less predictable than the adult mag. But how could you run for the bus in the "rugged booties" featured in this spread? In my high school, rugged booties where made by Timberland (this was back when Timberlake was still part of a larger cohesive unit) or Sketchers, not Marc Jacobs and Chloe. Are high school students really wearing minidresses everyday, with sky-high shoes like these Marc by Marc Jacobs suede and leather platform boots any more than adult Vogue readers are wearing couture in the kitchen? You tell me.
