Are convertible heels the shoes of the future? (And do we want them to be?)

highheels.jpg

Remember Sheila's Heels - the high heeled stilettos that turned into flats when you wanted to drive in them? Well, it seems that "Sheila" isn't the only one thinking that convertible heels are a good idea - the ones pictured above are a prototype by Marte den Hollander, who designed her Footloose Adjustable Heels for those of us who love our heels but don't always find them comfortable enough to walk in. Not only does the heel on these fold away into the sole, though, the altered position of the heel also changes the shape of the footbed, to allow for the changing shape of the foot, meaning that they should be just as comfortable as flats as they are as heels. Would you buy them if they ever went into production, though?

Yes I think adjustable heels is on the best ideas in a very very long time. I would definitely buy and wear them.

I like them more for their unusual nature. I wish more of these "concept" shoes were available.

I like the concept, I just hope that the heel would not suddenly flip when you walk on it.

it would be intersting to see the biggest size it would work for (lets say size 11(US) and a 4 and a half inch heel.

Definitely! I wouldn't think twice! They look like the best thing since sliced bread! I can't wait to have one.
