Designer creates shoes with soles made out of ice

sole01.jpg

Now, I've heard of ice skates, but these "skates" are literally made out of ice! They're the brainchild of designer Brit Leissler, who fills moulds with water and then freezes them to create "soles on ice" which you can use to skate with even on the warmest days. Got a wooden floor? Access to your local supermarket aisles? Any reasonably smooth surface? Well, strap on your ice soles and skate off into the sunset! This still seems to be a concept design, but you can watch a video of the shoes in action at Brit's portfolio site. Sadly, of course, the ice soles will melt at some point during use, but the good news is that you can always make yourself a new pair.
