Top five flats to get Gwyneth through her high heel ban

Being a bit of a high heel addict myself, I do feel Gwyneth Paltrow's pain at being consigned to flats until her knee injury heals. (Not literally, mind. My knees are feeling just fine, thanks very much.) Because she seems to be having a hard time staying away from the stilettos, though, I've taken it upon myself to hunt down some pretty flats to help her get through the next few weeks. I'm sure she'll thank me later.

mousey.jpgUp first, it's Marc Jacobs' metallic mouse shoes. Yes, the Marc Jacobs mouse is back in the house, reinvented for autumn/winter 07. They've become something of a classic, and there's even a version with kitten heels, which will give Gwyneth that little bit of extra height without hurting her knees.

Meet Monsoon's 'Modernist' pumps - as flat as pancakes, but with a pointy toe and curved shape that makes them far less clumsy looking than some of the flat shoes you see. Then there's that cute jewelled embellishment on the front to give them a bit of pizazz. At £40 they should be well within Gwyneth's price range.

ginaflats.jpgI always tend to associate Gina with sparkly, strappy, stilettos, but they also have rather a nice line in sparkly, non-strappy flats, too. Their bejewelled 'Maya' sandals come in green, pink, blue and black, so there's plenty of choice that'll be kind to your feet and knees.

redgege.jpg If you're used to wearing heels all the time, totally flat shoes can feel a little uncomfortable. These low wedges by Franco Sarto will give a bit of height but distribute weight evenly, so they're not forcing the wearer to throw their weight forward and balance on the balls of their feet, the way some heels do. They're $82.95 at Zappos.

crystalflowers_prose.jpg And finally, no round up of flat shoes would be complete without a pair of Havainas, alleged to be amongst the most comfortable shoes in the world. (You'll note I'm not including Crocs in this roundup because, well, they're Crocs.) I can't corroborate this because I don't own a pair of Havs, but this pink pair comes with a pretty jewelled flower, so they're one step up from most rubber flip flops at least.

The Gina ones are actually my least favourite too, Jimena. I think they could look nice with a more casual outfit, but on someone else other than me :)

And yes, the mouse shoes are adorable!
