Five funky slippers to keep you warm this winter

river-island-slippers.jpg

We spend a lot of time here at Shoewawa talking about shoes you can wear outside, for work and for play, but if you're a true shoe addict, you probably don't like to pass up the opportunity to splash some cash on the odd pair of indoor shoes too - or slippers, in other words!

Now that the cold weather is starting to set in (here in the northern hemisphere, anyway), bare feet and stocking soles are no longer an option, so here are five pairs of slippers to tempt you, kicking off with River Island's metallic and faux fur creations, which come in glamorous winter white and a slightly frightening animal print, for £14.99. More after the jump.

Ballet flats and Mary Janes - two of our most loved shoe styles, so it makes sense to take that look and turn them into slippers, doesn't it? Next have done just that, creating slippers that will almost make you look like you're just wearing your regular outdoor shoes. Price is from £8 - £10.

There's a good chance you're cringing in horror at the very sight of these, but hear me out. Even their detractors will grudgingly admit that Ugg boots are hard to beat in terms of comfort and warmth, and in the privacy of your own home, no one need ever know that you're wearing them. These Ugg-style slippers are £12 from Barrats. Don't worry, we won't tell if you don't...

khussa-slippers.jpg

These aren't actually slippers - they're Indian beaded Khussa shoes, but they're my personal favourite house-shoe of choice, because they're both comfortable and glamorous. These don't provide a lot of warmth, true, but the leather sole makes them perfect for padding around the house, and if you feel silly in big, fluffy creations, they could make a nice alternative to more traditional slippers. As an added bonus, when it gets to summer, you can wear them outside the house, too - although be prepared to have family members constantly asking why you're wearing your "slippers" in public.

crabtree-flats.jpg

More ballet flats, this time in traditional pink and from Crabtree and Evelyn. I love the "pointe" toe and the way they mimic the appearance of proper dancing shoes - I think the temptation to pirouette across the wooden floors in my house would be too much for me in these! They're $37.95 and also available in gold satin.
