Books about shoes: The Shoe Queen by Anna Davis
If your obsession with shoes extends to reading about them as well as wearing them, admiring them and generally lusting over them, The Shoe Queen by Anna Davis might just make a nice Christmas stocking filler - for yourself, of course.
The Shoe Queen is about Genevieve Shelby King who parties with the Anglo-American contingency of 1920s Montparnasse, Paris. She meets a shoemaker, Paolo Zachari, the most renowned and eccentric shoe maker in the land. She embarks on an affair with him but in the end is forced to confront the beauty of her shoes, yet the emptiness of her soul. The book is inspired by fragments of truth and legend concerning real life shoemaker Pietro Yanturni who has inspired many of today’s high fashion designers including Manolo Blahnik. It's published on December 3rd by Black Swan, and promises to be "a tale of forbidden love and must-have shoes". Sounds good to me...
