Mary Jane disco socks at ASOS - whatever next?!

I've seen some strange attempts at footwear in the time I've been writing for Shoewawa, but these lurex ankle socks from ASOS are going to take some beating. They're calling them "Mary Jane" disco socks, presumably because they have a "strap" detail going across the top of the foot, but that's where any similarity to Mary Jane shoes ends. Instead, these look more like the surgical stockings you find yourself forced to wear if you had a foot injury. What does everyone else think? Will you be rushing to ASOS to spend £3 on these, or will you give them a wide berth?
