Monday Question: Do you match your shoes to your handbag?

shoesandhandbag.jpg

When you own as many shoes and handbags as I do, it's inevitable that you'll end up with a few matching sets, either by accident or by design. While the impulse to match like with like and wear red shoes with a matching red handbag, for instance, can be a powerful one, any time I end up doing this, I can't help wondering if I'm making a fashion faux pas? It can look a little too "matchy-matchy" and twee for some tastes, although others swear by it as an easy way to smarten up an outfit.

At the same time, there are certain colour combination I won't wear together: gold shoes and a silver handbag, for instance, just wouldn't feel "right" to me, and neither would black and navy blue. What about you, though? Do you like to match your shoes to your handbags, or do you prefer to mix things up a little?

(The bag and shoes in the picture are both from Faith, for the benefit of those who like them.)

I prefer to match but don't always manage it due to laziness on my part when it comes to swapping bags...

No I leave that to the queen!

But in fairness to Princess Di, she rarely went down the matchy-matchy road

As someone who really only wears blac clothes (and doesnt own a pair of pants, at that!), I tend to branch off into high heels and handbags to flavor my outfits, and that being said I generally wear animal prints for both those catergories, as their smart and unique without being tragically overdone. And yes, I match them, without fail. I love matching purses and handbags, and as long as you do it with a SMALLER handbag (I don't like anything larger then say, 9x9 inches), I think it's pretty much a fashion DO.

Nope. I never match shoes & bags. Itend to have one or the other coordinate with my outfit, and then the other will be a statement piece.

I don't do this mainly because I don't have that many purses, and I don't like having to change bags all the time. However, my 56-year-old mother has recently purchased some red peep toes and a red purse. She wears them together and looks great.

Rarely! If I do it's usually coincidence, or the rest of my outfit is so bold that matching shoes and purse is the only way to tone it down. It feels a little mum-sy to me otherwise!

i think it depends on a million different factors. for example if you're wearing a black outfit, like Jourdain said it can be great to put animal print shoes and bag with it to perk it up. but if you had a pair of fabulous statement shoes, then you might want to coordinate the bag to match the outfit.

all in all thought i don't really think it's a definite fashion faux pas, but it should be done with caution. in fact, while i never listened to her, my mother always told me growing up that you should ALWAYS match your shoes to your handbag!!
