Diablo Cody shuns Stuart Weitzman's £1 million dollar Oscar shoes

She may have won Best Original Screenplay for Juno, but we're all about the shoes here, so our main concern during last night's Oscar ceremony was the thorny issue of what Diablo Cody would wear on her feet.
She was supposed to be wearing the $1 million dollar Stuart Weitzman shoes pictured on the left of the picture above, but Cody had other ideas, writing on her MySpace blog: "I'm actually really pissed about this, now that I think about it. They're using me to publicize their stupid shoes and nobody asked me. I would never consent to a lame publicity stunt at a time when I already want to hide. I'm sorry if I sound like a party-pooper, but Jeebus."
Instead, she turned up at the ceremony wearing the gold flats shown above. A good choice, do you think?

Good for her!

So I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt that if I would have tried on a pair of sparkly heels and THEN found out that they were worth a million dollars, I might freak. After the inital shock wore off though, I would love that some world famous designer chose me of all people to wear his shoes. What a compliment for him to even know who I was! The true question is what stripper (or ex-stripper in this case) turns down MILLION DOLLAR shoes? Seriously?!

I think she made the right choice. Who cares if those other shoes are worth a million bucks? They're ugly as sin, and the shoes she chose are much nicer!
Money isn't everything, you know.

I fail to see how the fact that she was a stripper has anything to do with this. She made a choice wrought with moral integrity and we should be grateful that any semblance of integrity still exists in Hollywood.

Her flats look like they are from Payless. If she had a problem with the shoes then she could have quietly communicated it to Stuart Weitzman instead of making rude comments to everyone about it. I did notice that she had no problem with accepting a dress from Dior. So apparently her moral integrity can be bought with a free $3000 dress.

I think some of you are missing the point here.
Every year, Stuart Weitzman chooses a celebrity (usually Oscar-nominated) to wear a special custom-designed pair of heels to wear to the Academy Awards. These shoes are usually decorated with jewels, and are very expensive. Diablo Cody did not have to buy these shoes, they are a gift from the designer.
So what she is doing, colloquially speaking, is looking a gift horse in the mouth. Her rude and ungrateful response is only going lose her respect amongst those in the film industry.
If you look up Stuart Weitzman's response to Cody, he handled the debacle with 100% class.

No one should ever feel pressured to wear something or to accept a gift that they don't want.

There was no pressure here. She had a hand in designing the shoe, even to the point as to deciding how large the diamond floral design would be. She knew exactly what was going on, and then waited till the last moment to trash the man. If she didnt want to wear the shoes she could have handled it with a great deal more tact. The girl has absolutely NO class.

Miff, I suggest you look up the definition of "looking at gift horse in the mouth". Then you tell me if Cody's response was acceptable given that she'd helped design and accepted the gift.
