Ugly Shoe of the Week

missoni-ugly.jpgI've never quite understood espadrilles. I get that they add height and they're a very popular summer style, but it seems to me that so much can go wrong so easily with the design. Take this pair from Missoni. The classic woven Missoni zigzag - in a very attractive mix of colours, I might add - is transformed into a pair of chunky, clunky and completely ungainly shoes with the addition of the woven, raffia wedge. If these espadrilles make even a "size zero" mannequin look like she's grown Clydesdale hooves instead of feet, what chance do the rest of us have? They're £350 from Net-A-Porter.

I'm disappointed in your choice of Ugly Shoe... There are far more egregious examples just from this weeks fashion shows - Rodarte certainly leads in my estimation, and Matthew Williamson could get honorable mention. Jill Stuart's are simply a waste of good leather.

Sorry but it appears that you are the only one who thinks those are ugly. I would wear them in a heartbeat.

Sorry, but these are lovely. Love the colour, the style and the Missoni zig-zags. Would buy a pair, if not so damn expensive.

These are great! I love the navy raffia.

I don't like espadrilles either. I don't hate these, but I think espadrilles in general are weirdly chunky, and not particularly attractive.

Jer & Katherine - we've actually covered both Rodarte and Jill Stuart's catwalk shoes this week already - take a look at the 'New Shoes' category :)

Truly, that mannequin's feet are an object to pity.

I find most espadrilles unbearably clunky, with the average one being only slightly better than those missoni eyesores...

but I actually found a very svelte pair with very dark brown leather strappy uppers, and a somewhat more narrow, and slightly darker ...err..."hay" part. To top them off, they are a brand called "feet first" which is actually a comfort brand (and comfortable they are.) This is one of 2 of my heels that make me super tall and leggy and are totally, totally comfy. My point? I didn't use to believe it myself, but good looking espadrille shoes CAN EXIST.

Getting back to those monsters at hand, I have to say, this is a fine example of how the espadrille can SO EASILY go wrong, 95% of the time!

I meant to feature fashion week shoes as 'ugly shoe of the week'! my vote: the Rodarte heels.
