Emilio Cavallini Cut-Out contrast socks

Before I go into detail about these Emilio Cavallini Cut-Out Contrast Socks I want to know - do you wear socks with your pumps? I've always been curious to know if anyone actually wears this trend outside of fashion shows, photo shoots and magazines. Now, if you do wear socks with pumps, would you wear these socks? They're obviously made for their impact factor, firstly with the cut out in the middle of the foot, as well as the white contrast trim. It's a bold bold choice for a bold bold girl. In case you're wondering, they will set you back £6 from ASOS - but would you even consider wearing them?

I find bare feet with any kind of shoes uncomfortable, so I always wear socks with my pumps. However, I throw out my socks when they have holes in them - I wouldn't buy socks that already have great big holes already in them!

Haha! Because I'm short, I avoid socks with skirts. I don't like the line they make on my legs. Since I mostly wear skirts and buy shoes to go with them, I doubt socks would fit in my pumps.

Believe it or not, wearing ankle-socks—especially those topped with lace or other frilly excess—with pumps was actually a major trend in the early-to-mid 1980s. If you want to see this in execution, go watch the video for “Legs” by ZZ TOP or one of the opening scenes in Just One of the Guys. There is certainly a deluge of 80s inspired fashion on the market these days, following that twenty-odd year rule, but aside from leggings, neon colors, fishnet and lace gloves, Madonna-inspired hairstyles, and the resurgence of over-accesorizing, the amount in which we’ve really -re-entered the fashion-culture of the early 1980s is, as always, debatable. Until you see stuff like this.

These socks are very 1980s, but also carry a subtle hint of the Mod movement of the late 1960s (which is, of course, seeing its own fashion revival of course). The monochromatic look and the insertion of a cut out (which recalls Andre Courreges’ “port-hole” waistlines of the late 60s) whittles at the tacky 80s vibes and makes these subtly-quirky enough that they’ll probably sell with people who rarely do quirky.

This exhaustive dissertation aside: I would not wear these socks, haha. I may be a fairly New Wave gal—I even do legwarmers from time to time (see how I quoted Cyndi Lauper there?)—but I believe anything that cuts off at the ankle without going up further than just below the knee is bad news for the legs. I only wear pumps or pump-esque shapes, and so, after all this, I definitely pass on these.

I love wearing socks with heels, I am pretty short but if they are the right shoes and light coloured socks, I think they look cute!!!

I would wear these.

Also for the winter - footless opaques tucked into the socks would look very, very awesome.

I wear white fold over anklets all the time. I think they are fun and cute
