J Crew's patent peep toe Mary Janes

mary-jane-shoes.jpg

We had a brief glimpse of J. Crew's patent peep toe Mary Janes last week, but I thought they deserved a closer look, so here they are in two of the colours they're currently available in. You can also buy these babies in bright yellow and black patent, and the style is also available in a linen fabric in yellow orange and white. They're $198 in patent, and $235 in linen, and you pick them up at the J Crew website.

I confess to great dismay over the peep toe. I'd be in love with these shoes if they were regular close-toed mjs - you can never have too much patent and bright colours. But I suppose I just don't *get* it. They look unwieldy to me, like an ill-thought-out combination of two shoes that weren't meant to be mated. When I see them on the models at the J Crew site I keep blinking, thinking the toe will fill in with colour in a moment. Can you explain them perhaps with other examples? Is the peep toe mj a trend I haven't noticed? Because I've seen nothing like them on the street or on celebrities on the red carpet.
