Japan asks Crocs to redesign their shoes after escalator accidents
While they definitely have their fans, I'm sure there are more than a few Shoewawa readers out there who'd love to be able to ask Crocs to redesign their shoes. Well, Japan's trade ministry has done just that, but the demand has nothing to do with the appearance of the shoes, and everything to do with the number of accidents being caused by Crocs caught in escalators.
There were apparently 65 accidents involving Crocs between June and November last year, and the authority feels enough is enough: not only have they asked Crocs to look at improving the design and materials, warning signs advising of the dangers of wearing Crocs on escalators will be displayed in railway stations and department stores. Crocs themselves maintain that most of the accidents involving their shoes were caused by "poor riding behaviour" than the plastic shoes themselves.
