Make your own shoes with Mary Wales Loomis

mary wales loomis make your own shoes.jpg

I want to go straight home via the craft shop and start making some shoes! Mary Wales Loomis shows us how to make shoes in any height and from a variety of fabrics.
From making a last to attaching a heel and gluing a real leather sole it's all in her book 'Make Your Own Shoes'. I'm already mentally going through all the fabric and leather offcuts in my sewing room to see what I could use as shoe material.

I actually have her book. I haven't tried it yet (I didn't have a whole lot of luck finding shoemaking supplies, but then again, I didn't spend a whole lot of time trying), but it's a pretty clear book and fun to imagine the possibilities from.

I have this book on my wish list and have researched making shoes at home for some time - but I have had NO luck in finding where to buy shoe-making supplies - its a nightmare! - so any links you could supply would be gratefully received

I nearly bought this book about 3 years ago.
trouble is...shoemaking supplies arent really readily available...
for example mary says to get spare heels...like where? unless u take them off other shoes, and then they dont fit properly.
I actually do know how to make shoes, i studied footwear design at cordwainers and am a shoe designer, and its not really as easy as mary makes out... although i can make my own handmade slippers lol and they take ages
*would love to be able to actually make her own shoes* but u need the proper equipment!

I have an older version of this book (the new one seems to have more information, such as making your own heel counters) and as Hayley above has said, it's not very useful of you can't get the supplies. My major problem is the lack of heels. I've had lasts made for nearly 10 years and still have not made a pair of shoes because I lack heels.

Anyone that has current sources for small orders of heels, shanks, heel counters, or other shoe findings, please share the wealth and link us.
