Are skyscrapers on the way out? Nicholas Kirkwood believes so...

Nicholas Kirkwood, best known for his extreme heels on the runways of shows such as Rodarte and Alberta Ferretti, has hinted that the time of the five- and six-inch heel might be over. He has expressed regret over his more recent creations which caused model Abbey Lee Kershaw to fall during Rodarte's spring '09 show.

"I'm pretty much over the five-inch-high platform and girls tripping all over the place. Granted, I've been responsible for some of that ... [I]t's terrible. I have sympathy, I do. Next season's shoes should be more manageable, I'm feeling ready for a more refined, lighter, more feminine look," he told Style.com. "...I'm working on a pair of flats, but for me, it's either super-high or super-low. There's no point messing with anything in between."

So there you have it, straight from the horse's mouth!
