Stella McCartney patent wedge ankle boots

When See by Chloé Accessories brought back the raw rubber sole look in the spring with their substantial taupe wedges, I was a little sceptical. But I'm eating my words as I write this because the look has really grown on me and is proving a fun style for designers to play with.

Stella McCartney's patent ankle boots are given a more casual, wearable twist by the rubber soles here, making them great as all-weather winter boots - especially since the inside is lined with faux-sheepskin for extra insulation! The smart black sheen of the leather is in keeping with the season's hard, fetish leanings but I think the soles round off the sharp edges very neatly, giving them all-round appeal. £245 at Net-a-Porter
