TUC wages war on 'killer' heels as six-inch stilettos rise

Miss KG Goldie.jpgThis is the shoe at the heart of a row that's erupted between the TUC's health & safety body and stores such as Debenhams and ASOS; both of which are stocking the so-called 'killer' six inch Goldie stilettos by Miss KG.

The TUC is campaigning against companies that impose the wearing of high heels and recommends heels should be no higher than one and a half inches and shorter than an inch if worn for prolonged periods. Until now, I'd thought most stiletto injuries were self-inflicted, but I've just heard that airline cabin crew are forced to wear heels, and Does anyone else here work in an industry that enforces uncomfortable footwear?

As for the shoe, I'm personally not sold on such a gigantic platform (although it should be pointed out that such a large wedge on the front of the shoe will to some extenet balance out the six inch heel that's causing such concern, so this particular style is an odd target. But if you like it, it's from KG's new 'lower end' range, Miss KG, which is selling similar styles to its KG and Carvela ranges at more affordable prices. These ones are £65 at ASOS

Just to answer your question, airline cabin crew are required to wear high heels... I'm a hostie, and I have to have a pair of stilettos to walk through the airport, and a pair of flats to wear on the plane.

They look great, but they don't feel so good when I've just finished a 16-hour day on my feet, and have to put my heels back on at the end!

Kate> I didn't know that - and that's totally unreasonable, especially considering the amount of time you guys spend on your feet. I bet it feels rough at the end of a day! While I love my heels I'd hate not to be able to choose when to take them off.

ha funny fact I used to work for Kurt Geiger and staff HAVE to wear high heels, if you're caught wearing flats phew you were in trouble!

El> Oh dear! Yes, of course shoeshop workers must come in for some of the harshest treatment on the heels front. I wonder if other brands enforce the same rule...
