Salvatore Ferragamo move into the art world

Salvatore Ferragamo, the genius brand responsible for these rather gorgeous shoes on the right, are attempting to push the boundaries of fashion a little further. They've recently announced a collaboration project with artists Blue and Joy to celebrate the start of the Frieze Art Fair. The project will involve the showcasing of a variety of their work, including a unique piece made from 35,000
vintage Ferragamo buttons measuring
2.30 by 1.5 metre.

Thumbnail image for attf702a.jpgThe event kicks off today (15th October) the Salvatore Ferragamo Old Bond Street store and will be centering around the one off piece created with materials varying from mother of pearl, metal and even bone! Each button is handpicked from Salvatore's Florence factory.

Salvatore has always looked to the art world for inspiration in their accessory, clothing and perfume ranges, so a partnership with a leading artist was always going to be on the cards. It'll be interesting to see whether this partnership will be reflected in any new collections of Salvatore's shoe collections. This is, after all, the brand that pretty much invented the wedge heel and the cage heel.

Don't fancy the art collection? The shoes are an art piece all on their own, and definitely an investment at £575. You'll be in good company, with fellow collectors including Rachel Bilson, Demi Moore and even Marilyn Monroe.
