Yay or Nay: Winter peep-toes

winter-boots.jpgOver the past few years, I've had to strike quite a few otherwise perfect styles off my ankle-boot wishlist - all because the designers saw fit to remove the toe portion of the boot - traditionally an integral part of autumn and winter footwear.

What's going on here, folks? I know that practicality isn't the only concern when buying shoes, and is often the least of our concerns. But the open-toe styles we all love in the summer months seem to be creeping into more A/W styles than ever, and unless you're a year-round jet-setter, I can't see the trend being good to you.

...or do I just need to stop whining and invest in thicker tights? You decide!

Sometimes I wear peep-toe shoes in the winter. I carry them in my bag while wearing warm and waterproof snow boots and change when I get into the warm, dry office. These peep-toe boots are just silly. There are no tights warm enough or dry enough to wear these with on a typical Wisconsin winter day/evening. Nope. Not gonna do it.

My previous comment got eaten! I don't mind wearing peep-toe shoes in the office during the winter. But they get carried in a bag until I get TO that warm, dry office. Waterproof boots with toes get worn until then. There are no tights warm enough to make these booties a viable option outdoors in Wisconsin from November through March.

No, don't doubt yourself. As beautiful as they cna be, you should be glad you can see them for exactly what they are; kinda pointless! And there are lots of boots with the toe intact that look pretty. I'd choose those anyday!

Nay - I've tried to like these, but they still just seem so pointless to me, and I've lost count of the number of fabulous boots I've found this year that have been rendered totally useless by the fact that they have an open toe. I long for a return to the days when boots were boots!
