Shoe News: Faith to go into administration

faith-shoes-in-administration.jpgI have to say, I was wondering if Faith shoes would be the next casualty of the recession as I walked past yet another of their knock-down, 70% off sales in the West End earlier this week. Somehow, their fortunes seemed to have taken a turn for the worse in recent months, and today it was confirmed that the brand will be put into administration after getting into unmanageable debt.

Faith was one of those labels we all have fond memories of buying, wearing and coveting. It was always a 'fun' label - ideal for party shoes, and is where many of us bought our first heels. It's also worth remembering that Faith brought out some of the most-wanted styles on the high street, right up to last year's Mienna boots, which were an instant sell-out on the web. Their wedding shoes were also a huge hit with bridesmaids and brides-to-be, looking for a fashionable and affordable shoe for the big day.

Faith's future is not yet completely doomed, as there have been rumours that Debenhams, which already stocks Faith concessions, could purchase the brand just as it bought Principles out of administration last year. However, those looking for a quick, farewell bargain may be disappointed: the Faith site is no longer taking orders although a 10% discount is now operating in all stores.

Whoever ran the Faith website had a curious attitude to their customers.

More than a year ago, Faith were informed that a quarter of all their listed store telephone numbers were either incorrect, or incorrectly formatted.

In many cases, dial the listed number and you do not get through.

A year later, nothing had been done to fix the problems. There was perhaps a few hours effort to fix everything.

How much business did they lose from customers deciding to shop elsewhere?

All that in a recession too!
