RIP-gladiators.jpgWhat started as merely a whisper in the fashion world has been getting louder and louder: the gladiator is dead! Long live the cuff sandal/clog/espadrille (delete as appropriate).

This should come as no huge surprise in itself: the style has been in vogue for years, and has still managed to divide opinion. That much could not be clearer now, with many people declaring themselves 'relieved' to see the end of the gladiator, but just as many sad to see them go (that is, if they do truly disappear!)

In her first ever blog post (be warned: those over the age of 15 may require a translator), Madonna's daughter Lola took the opportunity to mention her dislike of gladiator sandals, and to insist that the style is "OUT":

They came out in summer 2008 and I was like, ok those are really cute. Then 2009 comes around and people are still wearing them so I'm like, ok whatever it's just a phase. BUT NOOOOO. Because good old 2010 is now coming along and people are STILL wearing them, and then I was just like OK NO! It's been three years people COME ON!!!!!!!!! I'm just like what????"

Well, that's us told! I personally think the style has been around far longer than 2008, but when you're 13, two years probably feels like the five or so that it's actually been. So what do you think: will you be glad to see the back of gladiators, or do you still love the look?
