Yay or Nay: Boots with in-built 'socks'

shoe-boot.jpgI can't seem to make up my mind what I think of the shoe and boot styles with 'socks' coming halfway up the ankle, as they scream impracticality, particularly in the summer months. However, the colour contrasts they create look pretty cool, and they're certainly 'bang on trend' at the moment.

As an example, I've picked out these 'Alice' boots, which have just gone on sale at ASOS. The 'shoe' portion of this item is made from hard leather with black denim on top, and the frilly sock part is simply described as 'other materials', which look kind of suede-like. What do you think of the look over-all?

Sorry folks, I won't use any more such terms in an ironic way. I tend to use it for stuff that's trendy without actually being very nice, IYSWIM.

If, and that is a BIG if, I wanted to wear socks with booties, I would prefer to choose my own socks. Not only is this a big "thumbs down," the phrase "bang on trend" should be banned from the Big Book of Fashion Journalism Cliches.
