Michael Kors exhibited on the runways of his spiritual home, New York, yesterday and we were pleased to see that he put footwear at the heart of his collection as usual. The designer, who celebrates 30 years in the business this year went in for sleek monochrome looks in his garments, which were reflected by hard-edged futurism in his shoes.

Jutting platforms with sturdy heels were big players in this collection: some with a plain and clinical stainless steel-look finish, others embellished with gemstones. Brushed suede thigh length boots brought a daring hint of glamour, leaving us with the notion that simplicity need not be lacking in sparkle.
