We were expecting (and hoping for) something pretty spectacular on the Alexander McQueen runway with Sarah Burton at the helm, and thankfully we were not disappointed. The show, which took place at La Conciergerie, Marie Antoinette's prison, was edgy, daring and very much in keeping with the late designer's distinctive style. Steely ice maidens walked the runway in striking monochrome silhouettes - and some truly outstanding footwear.

The pieces took inspiration both from classic McQueen styles and from the subcultures that were his muse. Fetish-style multi-lace boots featured heavily, made from patent leather and snakeskin, and shorter ankle boots twisted into all kinds of irregular shapes helped carry off bare-legged looks. Ice and snow were constant motifs, bringing a seasonal chill to the overall look.
