In an interesting break with tradition, Balenciaga's primary nod to geometry in its A/W 11 show was the floor the models walked on! The shoes that we saw above that chequered floor were something quite different: far more decorative, toned-down and sophisticated than what we saw in the label's earlier brights and toytown styles.

Instead, we had multi-strapped stilettos with snakeskin accents (a few of which were in the strong colours we've come to expect from the label), criss-cross leather decoration on built-up shoe-boots and some exotic, floral patterning that echoed the designs featured on the knee-length skirts and other confusingly spring-like garments worn by the models.

We weren't blown away by this collection - but it included some key styles for A/W 2011 rendered quite beautifully and with the artfulness we've come to expect from a brand that it constantly re-inventing itself.
