Gucci's recent catwalk show in Milan had two primary influences, according to Vogue: Anjelica Huston and Florence Welsh. This formidable meeting of styles brought us a show that was both vampish and retro, and the footwear had just the right balance of fierce colour and timeless vintage chic to carry off the look.

The rich silks of the sweeping skirts were complemented by exotic skin shoes made up in strong colours and soft suedes. Elsewhere, more classical knee-length boots were worn with pencil skirts and jaunty fedora hats. While Gucci's shoes were not jaw-dropping in themelves, they were the ideal companions for the garments, and should pave the way for even more colourful vintagey footwear on the high street next season. Hurrah!
