Lanvin took to the Paris runway this weekend with a dark and vaguely Gothic collection that featured over-sized hats, big capes and some truly amazing chunky silver jewellery. But we're here to talk about the shoes, so let's cast our eyes downwards for a moment and consider the footwear.

Much of it was austere like the rest of the collection, but we were teased with just a little playful embellishment courtesy of some gilded and crystal-embellished floral motifs on slimline contemporary stilettos. We love the slightly sprung, bendy look of the heels and the industrial-style strap holding everything together and ensuring that the overall look does not slip too far into girly territory.

Elsewhere, plain, almost apologetic leather boots moulded to ankles. suggesting a return to the type of footwear that slips seamlessly into identical garments (although here they were contrasted against models' bare legs; a look unlikely to translate on to the high street).

We were slightly spooked but largely delighted by Lanvin's dark A/W 2011 collection, and pleased that the footwear was not completely enveloped by the gloom!
