Flapper Girl fashion at Boardwalk Empire launch
Boardwalk Empire, the compelling, comedic and challenging HBO series set in Prohibition era America is back on UK screens for a second series on 5 Oct on Sky Atlantic. We've already had a sneaky preview of the new series at a secret speakeasy held in London - and we can't wait to see what happens to Nucky et. al. as the season progresses. But we're also deeply into 1920s fashion at the moment, and there is simply no better place to look for inspiration than the glamorous women of Boardwalk Empire.
The clever styling and attention to detail adopted throughout the series gets the look just right, and whether you're into the androgynous flapper girl style or a more womanly evening gown look, it's worth watching what the characters wear for inspiration. And the footwear is an important part of your authentic twenties outfit.
Twenties shoes are having a big influence on many current footwear styles, with their pointed toes, mid-heels and Mary Jane straps. You can find 20s homages everywhere from Office, with their simple patent 'Hiccup' heels to L.K Bennett with their pointed, bejeweled heels and high-end designers like YSL with their opulent, 'Opyum' shoes. Look also for double straps as in Matalan's chunky-heeled style, which is an absolute steal at £12. This is a look you can get on any budget, and is bound to be a big hit this seasons whether you're dressing up for Halloween or re-inventing yourself as a true fashion-plate.
Season two, episode one of Boardwalk Empire will air on Sky Atlantic tomorrow night (Wed 5 Oct) at 1.10am.
