Today is, apparently, Blue Monday and while we're not entirely sold on this being the most depressing day of the year, we can be sure that our footwear is getting the blues! Denim footwear made its first big come-back since the 1970s a year ago, but the look isn't done yet and will be back with a vengeance this summer. There are lots of big name designers leading the way, so you can be sure to find something stylish in whichever shade of the laid-back of fabrics you might want.

One great thing about denim is its ability to give any look a more relaxed edge, whether it's a baseball shoe or a tall, party heel. There's no better example of this magic transforming quality than in Rupert Sanderson's 'Harper' platform (pictured bottom left), which becomes a playful daywear piece when made from denim. The look becomes even more chilled out and beach friendly when combined with an espadrille sole, as in Charlotte Olympia's Dolores pumps, top left.

Shown top right, Jeffrey Campbell's ever popular 'Lita' boot lends itself beautifully to denim, and we love the look of the stonewashed fabric against a tawny brown wooden heel. Giuseppe Zanotti's denim sandal  bottom right, meanwhile, takes a walk on the wild side with a leopard-print trim that will match up nicely with all your retro creams and browns.
